Known as the "Crossroads of the World", Times Square is a dazzling intersection famed for its lavish neon signs, grand theaters, and pulsating crowds. Whether you're on your way to a Broadway show, a buzzing bar or one of the family-friendly restaurant that line the streets, look out for iconic structures like the Paramount Building and One Times Square – site of the celebrated New Year's Eve ball drop.
One of the art capitals of the world, Chelsea has literally hundreds of renowned galleries to explore, including the Gagosian and the Gladstone. A taste of New York life can be had at Chelsea Market, a vast warren of artisan food stalls. The High Line, an elevated promenade, offers fantastic views of this upscale neighbourhood, while the Chelsea Piers – intended destination of the Titanic – is a great Manhattan landmark.
Think "New York City" and the sights of Midtown East will spring to mind . There's the towering Art Deco splendor of the Chrysler Building, the gleaming edges of the Empire State Building, and the opulence of Grand Central – arguably the world's most famous train station. For top flight shopping, make your way to Saks Fifth Avenue, and you can even walk the corridors of power at the UN Headquarters.
Anyone visiting the Big Apple will want to explore Midtown West – this is where the razzle dazzle of Times Square is, after all. Take in a show on Broadway or, if you fancy giving your mind a workout, take a tour of the celebrated Museum of Modern Art (or MoMA). And when your tummy starts rumbling, check out the French brasseries, sushi bars and Russian eateries on Restaurant Row.
Sandwiched between the winding Hudson River and lush Central Park, Manhattan's Upper West Side is home to New York's most exclusive high-rise apartments, as well as Columbia University. The American Museum of Natural History makes it a history-buff's dream, while the Lincoln Center showcases everything from opera to jazz. A stroll around Riverside Park in full bloom is a fine way to spend a sunny day.

"Awesome Family Hotel - the way it should be"

Very contemporary hotel. The experience has been designed with a tech-literate audience in mind. Check yourself in (easy). Very modern hotel with quiet rooms and bunks for the kids. Staff is young and energetic. Dohyo restaurant is excellent (unusual for a hotel restaurant).

This is a real gem for anyone looking for a friendly, low-key place near midtown Manhattan. The rooms are clean but modest (and priced accordingly), the staff are outstanding and its near the heart of everything, including a short walk from Grand Central. The hotel bar has a great relaxed atmosphere or you can easily walk to other options. I've been back and it is now my regular choice in NYC.
"Clean and tidy, great location."

Hotel Newton was a great location for Columbia and downtown and Central park and was very good value for money. It is not luxurious, and my room was small, but it had everything needed if you are looking for a clean and tidy bed. Do not expect to be serviced with extra facilities, but I could not fault it.
"Adequate for price paid and location"

The Salisbury is certainly looking tired but we found it clean and spacious. Location is great and staff helpful. Kitchen had nothing except a sink, fridge, microwave and coffee maker; no plates, cutlery or utensils so could not cook. Bathroom is small, but again adequate given the price we paid
"cosy and great value for the budget traveller"

we had a pod with 2 bunks, which gave us more room than a double bed would have. The pod rooms are tiny but we were only in the room to sleep. The Pod is so convenient to the subway and the East side of NYC is wonderful. 2nd Ave,just around the corner with great bars and good shopping for food. The room was spotless and we even had maid service! The location onE51 street is great for getting to the sights. We found NYC easy to navigate and so easy to get around.
