Sightseeing near Balboa Park

- San Diego Zoo

San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park is huge, with more than 3,700 animals of hundreds of different kids of species. You will see some of the cutest animals such as the giant panda, artic fox, grizzly bear; and many more. There is a lot to do and see at this zoo, so plan your day accordingly and get ready to learn and have some fun.

- Gaslamp Quarter

The sign greeting visitors to the Gaslamp Quarter of California's second-biggest city refers to this centrally located neighbourhood as the 'historic heart of San Diego.' Many of the Gaslamp District's first visitors were prostitutes and gamblers, but most of today's tourists seek far less illicit, yet no less entertaining, pastimes. The Ramada Gaslamp Convention Center-The Historic St James Hotel is just one among many Victorian-style buildings which have been restored to their original glory.

Still more of the 94 historic buildings in the Gaslamp Quarter Historic District have been converted into lively nightclubs, unique shops, and some of San Diego's finest restaurants. Visitors who take the Ghostly Tours in History through the neighbourhood are illuminated by some of the gas lamps for which this area was named. The four-star San Diego Marriott Gaslamp Quarter is a good place to combine business with pleasure, but baseball fans may prefer to stay at the Omni San Diego Hotel, which is linked by a sky bridge to San Diego Padres’ home, PETCO Park.

Transportation near Balboa Park

This city's most famous form of public transport is the San Diego Trolley, which is actually a light rail system which travels throughout most of the main tourist attractions. The Green Line connects the Old Town with Mission Valley and Santee, while the Orange Line travels between La Mesa, El Cajon, and the downtown area. The Blue Line stops at most tourist attractions and travels all the way to the Mexican border. Bus service is also available, but infrequent and sparse in several regions. San Diego's sunny and warm climate provides ideal cycling conditions.
