Exploring Las Vegas

Many of the world's most luxurious hotels are located in Las Vegas, including nine of the 10 largest places to stay on the planet. Trump International Hotel Las Vegas is one of the few five-star Strip hotels without its own casino. However, nearly all of the city's other luxury resorts come complete with countless gambling opportunities in addition to hundreds of onsite shops, restaurants, live entertainment, and other unique attractions.

Ways to cut costs during a Las Vegas holiday include taking advantage of cheaper weekday rates and keeping eyes peeled for additional resort fees tacked on for using amenities such as swimming pools, internet access, and fitness centres. People under 21, Nevada's legal gambling age, often cannot reserve rooms at casino resorts. Visitors wishing to stay outside of the bustling and noisy Strip can venture north to the Fremont Street Experience or to Boulder City, home of the Hoover Dam.

Sights nearby

Las Vegas is an especially popular weekend destination for Southern California residents as Los Angeles is under a four-hour drive away along Interstate 15. The Strip itself contains more than its fair share of attractions, but the Lake Mead National Recreation Area and Valley of Fire State Park are common daytrips for visitors craving natural beauty near the city's man-made glamour.

Fountains of Bellagio
The signature landmark of the Bellagio hotel and casino is this impressive display of over 1,200 jets which stream water high above this 36-floor Tuscan-style structure in the middle of the Strip. Carefully choreographed fountain and light shows set to classical and opera music take place every 30 minutes each day, but these displays are even more outstanding after dark.

Madame Tussauds Las Vegas
One of the most legendary Las Vegas museums is this outstanding collection of over 100 lifelike celebrity sculptures. Two floors of the Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino contain rooms filled with meticulous likenesses of some of the world's most famous athletes, movie stars, and Las Vegas performers. One especially interactive exhibit is a multi-sensory theatre where visitors can watch Marvel superheroes save the day. Many of the wax figurines also react when visitors touch them, such as the blushing Jennifer Lopez likeness that turns red when patted on the backside.

Adventuredome Theme Park
Bumper cars and laser tag are the most sedate of the several thrilling attractions at this sprawling indoor theme park, the largest of its kind in the nation, linked to the Circus Circus Casino. High ceilings, canyon fixtures, and over 8,600 surrounding heavy glass panes help make visitors feel as though they are in an outdoor park as they enjoy 25 daring rides like Chaos, Slingshot, and the Canyon Blaster.

Eating and drinking and shopping nearby

Las Vegas boasts more luxury shopping, gourmet dining, and outrageous nightclubs than nearly any other city on Earth. Nearly all casino resorts contain their own collections of shops and fine dining restaurants, but the greatest concentration of chain establishments in the city is situated on the northern end of the Strip at the Fashion Show Mall. Even in the middle of the notoriously hot Las Vegas summer, the Town Square provides a shady refuge of trees and water sprayers among its outdoor shops. The city boasts a total of more than 450 bars and 1,200 restaurants.

Public transport

Plenty of viable public transit options are available to anyone who does not wish to brave the Strip's frequent traffic jams. The Las Vegas Convention Center and a large number of casinos are among the stops along the east side Strip route of the Las Vegas Monorail. Trolleys travel along a large downtown loop as well as the length of the Strip. The Downtown Express, Citizens Area Transit, and the Strip's Deuce double deckers are the city's major bus lines.
