4/10 Fair
2 January 2025
We expected the Village Hotel to be better quality than other budget hotels like Premier Inn, as the gym is known for being more expensive than other chains. Overall that's not the case, so will stick with Premier Inn in future.
Our twin-bedded room was a disabled room and looked a bit shabby overall, with a bathroom in need of modernisation. The breakfast buffet was fine but staff not the most attentive.
One incident stuck out for a couple of reasons - on Boxing Day night, at bedtime, there was shouting and swearing in the corridor outside our room. We complained immediately to reception and got moved to a better double room on the top floor away from any noise.
The reception staff and manager dealt with the situation amazingly well, as the police were called in to remove the offenders. We were offered free breakfasts and drinks at the bar, which was a sensible and fair way to handle it.
It showed that the staff are wonderful, but sadly let down by the type of residents the Village Hotel can attract. Its sports bar and gym brings in a younger crowd, so these facilities are its main selling points. However if you want to guarantee a quiet stay, best look elsewhere!
