Clean hotel close to National Mall & Metro
I decided to take my nephew to DC to see the museums and wanted a place close to the National Mall at a fair price. This hotel offered everything we were looking for! We arrived at 12pm with our luggage, and traveled by metro. (the hotel is very close to the L'Enfant Plaza station- another reason I chose this hotel). If I didn't mind having our room located on the side where the train went by, a room would have been available immediately. I didn't know how my 5 year old nephew would react to that so I opted to wait until a room way from the noise was available. We planned to visit the museums majority of the day so we didn't mind the wait. We simply checked our bags with the bell man. I wish I remembered our attendants name who checked us in, she was FANTASTIC. Very comforting and attentive to our needs. She was quick and informative. We arrived around 5pm to a ready room on the third floor with a King size bed. Everything was clean and worked well. The bed could have been a bit softer and the pillows were very large and firm. Two minor things, and just my preference. Breakfast was included with our stay with the booking I made, which was a buffet in their restaurant. They had a lot of different foods available in plenty, and even an omelet made to order. The food was not outstanding, but standard as far as a hotel breakfast goes. We loved that it was close to the Air and Space Museum as well as the Metro station. We would stay here again!

Good hotel, wonderful staff, then disappointment!
In Washington for 3 days to view some of the sites newer to us. Chose this hotel for it's location. We were very surprised to find a well thought out facility, recently refreshed to a level more upscale than we expected. Staff was wonderful, check in was fast, room request honored, nice room, restaurant food and service staff wonderful, included large variety breakfast buffet was very good. Then on day 2 after pounding the pavement for hours, we went in to the 21st Amendment restaurant where we had received good food and outstanding service before. Restaurant area was empty, we were seated in our choice of tables, given menus and that's the end of it. A crew of 4 or 5 stood in a group in the restaurant laughing and giggling. no water, no drinks, no order. As it approached 10 minutes we left. Elizabeth offered to "comp" us, to what extent is unknown. We had soured on the place. We then went to the front desk to inquire of another restaurant. A man at he desk who was later described as a manager seemed unconcerned with the lack of respect and service. This episode was such a contrast to the friendly, accommodating staff we had experienced before and after. It's very unfortunate that the attitude of a few could cloud the efforts of so many. I would still recommend this Hotel with the advise to avoid the individuals that have a poor attitude regarding customer service...........

The Holiday Inn Washington Capitol may look to a newcomer to Washington D.C. to be near the Capital Mall and the Smithsonian attractions. It is actually not really close. It is a few blocks away from the Smithsonian's and about 1 mile from the Capital Mall. It also is located next to the train tracks, and if you like the sound of trains all night- well then your room will seem charming. We had very bad experiences with staff. Our flight was delayed and we rolled into check in at pm. When we checked in my husband tried to be pleasant and said " we will welcome a nice quiet room." The check in clerk said- "Well you wont get that. You should have booked months ago if you wanted a room on the front side of the hotel away from trains." We went to the restaurant in the hotel because we were starving. 3 people were seated and no one was waiting on them. The hostess , when she saw us arriving, left her stand and did not come back to seat us. We waited about 5 minutes. We left, and went to the conceigre stand and asked if there were any restaurants within walking distance. Instead of telling us Chipotle and Mc Donald's were a block away, he proceeded to be flippant and said at this time of night you'll have to take the metro to China Town. All the unpleasantness was really unnecessary . As our week wore on we decided the facility itself was pleasant. We grabbed breakfast mornings at the Starbucks downstairs and sat in a beautiful courtyard the Holiday Inn has. Pool was great.

    Will stay here again!
I read lots of reviews before making my decision and I based my hotel choice on location and price and I chose the best! I stayed for Thanksgiving with my boyfriend and wanted the best location for the right price. Location: We were only two blocks down from the National Air and Space Museum (which is free to go in). There aren’t too many restaurants nearby however we did try one of the hotel restaurants and it was great! There’s also an attached Starbucks next to the lobby. I loved how close this hotel was to the national mall. Room: Our room was kept clean everyday by the wonderful staff. The king size bed was great (though firm which I’m not crazy about). The blackout curtains gave me the extra sleep I’ve been lacking back at home. The Keurig was stocked everyday along with bathroom toiletries (the shampoo smells so good!) The bathroom and room had wonderful lighting and the tv had one HBO channel. We were in room 915 and only heard the train once and it was during the day. View wasn’t great but for $91/night, I had no issues with that. I was happy that they gave us top floor away from the trains (which we requested for in advanced). Complaints: I really don’t have any that should affect others to stay. I will stay here again when I visit D.C. Know that parking is a bit pricey at $40/night (tax included). Other complaint was water pressure on the top floor was high and low (but water was always hot). Other than that, great stay!!

Parking not included, otherwise VERY nice.
The listing says "self parking", so I called this property to inquire what that meant, specifically. My concern was it meant they didn't have a garage or lot, but we had to find a place on the street. The person on the phone was very nice and informed us there was a parking garage, but left out the fact that is was $53 extra per night to use it. It wasn't dishonest to leave out that detail, but certainly slight of hand. I wish I had known ahead of time when choosing where to stay. Other than this, the location is spectacular. Walking distance to all major museums, monuments, the Wharf district. Employees were helpful and courteous. The room was clean and ready for us. There were NOT USB outlets anywhere to be found, unless you want to use the one that is on the television. The televisions do not have a Netflix option... either rent movies from them or watch the 40 or so Cable stations. The room did have a coded safe for valuables, and you had to have a key card to use the stairs or elevators which is a nice security feature. There is a restaurant (21st Ammendment I think it was called) that had good food, and service was nice. There is a Starbucks attached, and right next to the property is a deli with good breakfast options if you don't want to eat at the same place for breakfast each day. Overall, very good, and highly recommend... just be aware of the extra charge for parking.
