Front desk Service needs a lot of improvement
Service at the front desk was horrible. There was no effort to try and help. When we arrived they said they couldn't find our reservation but to go ahead and go to our room. We told them we didn't want to go to our room until we know how much they are charging us. They couldn't understand this. I called in front of them, and in turn called the hotel reservation line and the was told the hotel had the reservation. The front desk said they still don't see a reservation. It was a cluster f**k. We also asked the door man to call us a taxi and he said we had to call the concierge. We called the concierge and told them we needed a large large to accommodate all of us. She told us she needed 2 hours notice to get that type of vehicle. We asked if she would just try and she said "no". Do not book a tour through the hotel. they are very expensive in comparison to other local tour sites on the streets. IF YOU NEED INTERNET DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL It was impossible to get a good connection unless you sat down in the lobby. The house keeping team was absolutely fabulous. To bad they didn't run the front desk.

Hotel's location was not exactly ideal, but not that terrible either. Check-in and check-out process was smooth. My room was 503. Room was ok, but some areas are in need for a dusting and cleaning. An example will be the hanging lights at the side of the bed. They were so dusty. Lid of kettle was broken. Making up of room was fine. The room attendant forget a few stuff here and there sometimes, but it's ok. They threw one bottle of mine that I wanted to keep though. One thing that was unbelievably hilarious was when we went to the concierge to help us to make a call to the nearest haidilao to make a reservation. The staff asked us if we had the phone number and we said no. Then the staff blatantly said "Then we aren't able to help you." This happened on 23 April at around 5-6pm. From my experience working at Front Office, we are supposed to help guests to search for the number instead of declining upright. Please train your staff on this especially when it's just a quick search and it wasn't even busy at that time. In the end, we told the staff that she has to just check online for it and she did it hesitantly. Other than that staff, the rest of them has been helpful.

Need more staff who are fluent in English
I stayed at this hotel last week; after one night I went to travel and informed the hotel of my late arrival 2 days later. When I arrived for a subsequent 3 night stay at 10:30 PM I was informed that they were full and could not give me the Deluxe king size bed that I had already paid for. They offered me a twin Superior and when I asked if I could be refunded for the cost difference, the gentleman informed me that there was no difference in price, and ran my credit card charging me for the room. It took 10 minutes of arguing and showing the receipt of payment, for him to finally void the charge. I was promised a king size room the following day. His English was far from fluent. My Beijing tour guide went to talk to the manager, who we did not find, but spoke in Chinese to another reception person. He upgraded me to a room on the 10th floor which was excellent. Worth to mention that when I returned to the room to move my luggage, someone had been smoking in it. I reported this to the front desk, who assured me that all the rooms are non smoking. Doubt that they tried to determine if housekeeping was the culprit.

Decent service in an old smokey hotel
This was our first stay at this hotel and in general we were dissatisfied. The hotel's location was further from Wangfujing shopping area than ideal, requiring 10-15 minutes walk to get there, although this wasn't too bad. The biggest letdown about our stay was the room, which had absolutely no ventilation and stank of smoke. Our room was so stuffy and given the air outside in Beijing we didn't want to open the window, but had to in order not to suffocate. My wife couldn't sleep well because of the lack of ventilation and we were told that no air-conditioning was available as the hotel itself was set to heating, aka no in-room setting. On our second night, the staff did provide a portable AC unit, but it used ice rather than expelling the rooms air. As for the in-room smell, despite being a non-smoking room, there was a strong cigarette stench in the pillows and parts of the room, quite overpowering at times. If a hotel specifies a room to be non-smoking, they need to ensure that any such odour is removed. One bright point about our stay was the young man at the front desk that checked us in, who spoke fluent English and was very polite and courteous. Also, the doorman who procured us taxi's during our stay was very helpful, and courteous. If you don't have a strong reaction to smells then this hotel isn't bad. The breakfast was quite comprehensive and housekeeping staff very consciencious. The hotel is quite old however, and bathroom could have been cleaner.

Reasonable, if the customer service is sorted!
Generally a nice enough hotel. Chinese 5* (International 3.5*). Booked an upgraded room, so it was a good size, with a large bathroom. Breakfast was reasonable enough. Drinks in the bar to be avoided unless they are pre-mixed (you are safe with bottled lager!). The cocktails were not well balanced Front desk service generall shambolic and not interested in customer care. Had to have a full-on 10-minute discussion as to why the hotel needed to provide more than 2 bottles of water per day, and how it was ridiculous for them to expect guests to buy more from outside, when they themselves were telling us that the tap water was obviously not potable! They even volunteered to send out a member of their team to buy the water for me, and didn't see how that would cost them more in time than to just provide some additional bottles for the 2 separate rooms I had booked! She even stated that there was a hotel "policy" which stated 2 bottles per room per day, but was unable to produce the policy upon request, and suggested that I pay for the water there and then, and the policy would be provided when I checked out!! That experience soured what was otherwise a reasonable hotel in a good location (15-20mins walk from Tienanmen Square) on Wanfujing DaJie
