Great option in Addis
The Hilton Addis Ababa is a great option when visiting the city. The hotel compound is very secure, has multiple onsite restaurants as well as a grocery/market and bakery, and beautiful pools heated by natural hot springs. The beds are comfortable with multiple pillow options, and the water pressure is great (and there’s always hot water!) Wifi was fast enough for me to livestream a couple of US yoga classes. Staff were very accommodating and friendly. It’s also very close to a couple of newly-built parks: Friendship Square and Unity Park. I was also pleasantly surprised that there was live music by the pool on Sunday afternoon! My only complaint is that I was told I couldn’t sit on the side of one of the pools to put my feet in the hot springs. I didn’t bring a swimsuit on this business trip, so I sat in shorts. Apparently this is a hotel policy, but nobody could tell me why. The pool is huge, so I don’t understand why there’s not room for both swimmers and other guests who just want to sit on the side with their feet in the warm water while reading?

I booked 18 nights stay at this hotel mainly because of the prestige name “Hilton” and the high standards it holds. I was a little disappointed. The outdoor space was the main attraction for me. It has a heated pool which was nice. The service was superb. Great employees who would go above and beyond to help. They do have an in-house doctor and nurse which was a plus. My fiancé felt sick one night and we were able to contact the doctor and nurse. The interior was outdated but I think there’re in the process of refurbishing the entire hotel in phases. To put it in perspective, our bathtub paint was half pealed off, the rooms and hallway carpet were old and dusty. The heater/AC was blowing out dust so we didn’t use it for the entire stay.The quality of the Hotel food was poor. Overall, this is one of the safest hotel in Addis and I’m optimistic that management will continue to improve their standards by updating the hotel rooms, interior space, and hotel food quality.
