    Ok Stay

Pretty centrally located and easy to get around via walking and lyft/taxi. We visited during Covid and expected the usual challenges of less staff and ability to clean. We were told and offered a day and time for housekeeping, planned around that, came back after it was supposed to be done and it wasn’t. Disappointed to not have our room cleaned the whole time. Hotel itself is nice but dated—we weren’t expecting a modern look but there were definitely stress cracks in the ceiling and peeling wallpaper in the room. No refrigerator, which was inconvenient. Also, you have to pay for wifi, which, in the year of our lord 2021, is ridiculous when you need internet access to do anything. But we weren’t there to hangout in the room so it was a fine stay. We may come back under normal circumstances when they have a full staff again, but we’re not in a rush to get back.

    Worth the experience!

The experience was great! The staff is beyond amazing! The a/c in our room didn’t work well but it wasn’t too terrible!

    Breakfast Included? Not really

We selected rsvp a room with a king bed, bathtub for 2, a view to the lake and breakfast included. We received a room with a good view to the lake and comfortable bed but no bathtub for 2 (but rather a very shallow common bathtub definitely not for 2) or breakfast included. Oh!, no room service, which we understand but felt it was a bit extreme. We figure they were probably understaffed. On the breakfast situation we felt scammed. The breakfast package was just a $30 discount not an inclusion on the reservation as advertised. We were able to have our dog with us for a non-refundable fee of $100. Do better, it felt like false advertisement. Overall, the staff was friendly but the hotel room and spaces felt a little outdated. Nothing extraordinary but the name and old time prestige and location now kind of in the past for the price we paid.

Once a grand hotel not anymore

The room was dirty, cobwebs , items from previous guests, bathroom . This hotel does not have a pool. Do not like the new decor in Lobby. The price was outrageous . Pandemic shortage of workers obvious .

    Drake is mostly back!

THis is the 4th time I've stayed at the Drake during the Covid mess. First time, I thought I was the only person in the hotel. Came in May, not a lot better. THis time much more open, staff not wearing masks (horray) - valet parking - another great thing as I don't like parking in the parking building and walking back. Now if you would open your famous Coq d'Or bar you would be 100% in my book. Palm Garden and Cafe on Oak are very nice, but nothing like the little bar. I've been coming to the Drake about every three months for decades. Glad to see it coming back strong.

Always a great hotel, but I was a bit disappointed in that the restaurants and bar were closed. I'm sure this is a result of the covi 19 craziness and difficulty in getting help. Hopefully, next time, everything will be open.

    Historical Yet Outdated and Dirty

The lobby of this historic building was beautiful but the rooms are extremely outdated and down right dirty. We paid an additional $80 per night for an upgraded room with a view of the lake. The size of the room and the view of the lake was fantastic but the room just wasn't clean. Dirty shower curtain, baseboards, inside windows (and outside) and please view the photo of the air vent! I travel weekly so there was no excuse for the lack of cleanliness. I shared my photos with the manager during check out but he didn't seem to care.

    Proud historic icon

In a quick 2 day trip, you want no problems and no confusion. This is a well run place, as well as a proud historic icon of the Gold Coast, well maintained to its 1920s heyday. The location is very walkable for Lake Michigan, retail and architecture, and just 15 minutes walk from the Art Institute snd downtown. Great!
