Faulty Towers experience...partly rectified
We booked last minute and needed a twin room. Initially we were allocated a very downtrodden "accessible access" room at the farthest end from the (excessively slow) lift, where neither the phone nor kettle worked; the bathroom was very basic with old towels, and none of the advertised eco-friendly toiletries. It was generally very poor for the price of €210 ex- breakfast. Our experience was like a scene from Faulty Towers - the sliding bathroom door was very stiff, and a large beam above it actually dislodged and fell down on my friend's head (see picture). She was 9 months pregnant at the time. The staff were obviously very apologetic about this and allocated us another room - this time an upgrade to a deluxe family suite: which was like being in a completely different hotel.
The hotel seemed quite short staffed and when we ordered water to be brought to the room none arrived. No one thought to direct us to the newer lifts, or indeed any of the amenities when we checked in.
I understand that staffing is major issue generally at present, but the room we got for the rate was the worst value I have had in a very, very long time.
