Very good
Pasqualina, the receptionist, really made my stay. She is a delight. Pasqualina is friendly, flexible, personable, professional, knowledgeable and has a cute sense of humor. She really went out of her way to accommodate me, from giving directions, recommendations on activities, booking my bus, and getting me a glass of water when I asked her for scissors in order to open some over the counter medication for my headache. I liked the fact that the hotel is so close to Marienplatz. The hotel was simple, but clean. The lobby is a little dreary. At first sight, I was a little apprehensive, but as soon as I spoke to Pasquelina, I was reassured. The 9 euro breakfast was good. The breakfast nook is much warmer and inviting than the lobby. This was an inexpensive hotel, but not a cheap one. As I was only in Munich one night, it suited my needs. They let me store my bags after I checked out, but had several hours to wait for my bus out of town. Pasqualina was great!!! I can’t thank her enough.

Good
Mostly OK; easy walk to train, Metro, & key sites.
I might stay here again in cool weather. Mostly it was fine; the staff was all very sweet except for 2 front desk people. Upon check-in to our room, I realized there was no AC, which was my only search requirement. Apparently there was a computer glich? The lady at the front desk that day was quite rude, but another lady offered to bring up a second fan for us which she did and we were very grateful. We have a son with a medical condition that we were concerned about. Rick Steves, a well-known travel writer in the States, recommends several hotels in this area (not this one). He correctly reports that this area around the train station seems seedy but it's really fine as long as you're not out late "looking for trouble." We passed 4 strip clubs, a few sex shops and casinos in the 3 blocks from the train station to the hotel. But Steve is correct: ignore them. Also across from our hotel was a hooka bar and Mexican restaurant with all day happy hour that both close at 3am and are quite loud. This didn't bother me. With jet lag and warm evenings, I enjoyed watching the nightlife out our window. In the mornings, I was so impressed with the street cleaning. Two men walked down the street sweeping out gutters, under and around dumpsters. They picked up trash by hand. Hotel staff left Gummy Bears on our pillows. Must try LaVecchia Masseria Italian restaurant nearby! Lovely courtyard, great food! Grocery, pharmacy also very close. Friendly shopkeepers and locals.

Poor
Very disappointed in this hotel; I would give it 2 stars at best. The night we checked in, we tried to shower (a necessity after a long international flight), and found that only scalding hot water coming out of the shower (and sink). We called and visited the front desk repeatedly, it were met with an apathetic response and a suggestion that we wait “3 hours, or maybe until morning.” We were only there for one night, and needed a shower. I had more luck getting another guest to come to my room and verify the water was only scalding then getting the front desk clerk’s help. I asked if we could be moved to another room and he said he couldn’t do that because the hotel was full. I contacted the hotel subsequently and asked for a partial refund, and they refused. I am a travel agent, and definitely won’t be reocmmending this place. At breakfast the following morning, I had to quickly move my foot to avoid a roach that came skittering across the carpet. This, along with stains on the carpet in the room, impacted my cleanliness rating and the overall bad impression of the hotel. As a side note, the immediate area is not pleasant either. We encountered panhandlers, homeless people, and sex shops/strip clubs in the vicinity.

Good
Nice room, if a little small even for Europe. The street the hotel is on, and it's location made it very loud especially with the window open to ventilate. Convenient parking, and nice staff. Good breakfast. But the primary function of a hotel is providing a nice place to get a good night sleep, and the two nights we spent here were not exactly that.

Very good
As convenient as it gets
Best thing about Hotel Wallis is its central location in Munich, easy walking distance even with a suitcase from the S-bahn and a short walk from the Hautbanhopf (Central railway station, where all the trains go). Short walk from the west end of Marienplatz. As I was there for a business trip, it was super easy to get to my office. It's an older hotel, and while the location is incredibly convenient, the neighborhood is not pleasing. e.g. homeless people around the corner, nudie shops across the street. But it's Munich, so it still feels safe even late at night. I had to wear ear plugs at night because of a noisy vent or heating system outside my room. Recommended for anyone who wants super easy access to the trains. Not recommended for anyone who's squeamish about their immediate surroundings. There are much nicer neighborhoods in Munich.
