Empire Hotel, New York
Excellent4.0 / 5
Stayed for four nights. Had a bit of work to do but the constant and I mean constant slamming of doors all morning was extremely aggravating. Needs to put some things that's stop them from slamming. It was pound banging all day and night. Lovely hotel though. Nice staff. Still don't understand why hotels charge for wifi in todays world. Comfortable bed.

A mix of great and average: depends upon your need
The Queen standard is VERY small, and we upgraded to the next size up, King. The airconditioner in our room was old, the controls down in the unit, and it didn't cool very fast. As it was chilly in the beginning, we tried to use the heat which didn't work. But the upgraded room was a nice size. We had a view of Lincoln Center and Broadway/Columbus merge area. It was quite nice. The room was quiet (internally) but it was very noisy outside. Lots of sirence (hospital down the road). The quietest room was the first room, but it didn't have a view, but it did allow for a bit more peace. The front desk service was very good. The doormen and concierge were also quite good. The showers are a bit weird, as only half glass and no second door, so the bath floor would get quite wet - they need to provide extra floor mat. The water pressure was lousy during the "rush" of things, and barely a trickle at times. The room maids were quite good, and attentive.

Empire Hotel / Disappointed
The room was not worth the price and staff not helpful or very friendly. Will not recommend it or use it again.

The location is great is the hotel has a lot of "vibe" and a hip boutique feel. Service and staff were very friendly and attentive. Even though the room was super tiny and the bathroom even tinier! I did only pay around $200/night and it's NYC so I was expecting that. The hotel does feel a little dated and the finishes are showing their age/lack of care. My biggest complaint and warning was that it was crazy loud! I was on the 7th floor and could hear phone calls, conversations, toilet flushes, and...other activities in the rooms around me in the middle of the night.

If location is all
The location for Lincoln Center visitors is superb. The service people are excellent. The public areas are dark but attractive. The rooms desperately need updating and refurbishing
