This Historic Hotel has an excellent location in Placerville. It has a lot of History I like it because you can walk to all the restaurants and shops. The price is also very reasonable

Fun to spend the night in a historic hotel! Temps were mild therefore no AC needed. Water pressure adequate for shower, comfortable bed, tho noisy neighbors made sleep difficult. Flipped thru all the pictures & articles about the hotel's history -- very interesting!

The woman at the front desk was wonderful! Our key card wasn’t working and she was so kind and helpful. The hotel is in a great spot! I like that they keep things simple and with the antique feel. Our remote was held together by packing or duct tape, that would be one of my only minor complaints. The room was quiet and clean.

The staff was AMAZING. So kind and happy to chat about the property. It’s definitely historic but clean. No frills and comfy beds, and you can’t beat the location. Thank you Cary House for a great 4th of July weekend stay!

The Cary Hotel is my favorite place in Placerville. It's beautiful, comfortable, and convenient. The staff just couldn't be nicer. My favorite part is the little bits of historical knowledge all over the place.

This is a hotel built in the 1850’s so different yardstick for amenities. A lot of great history. And the cleanest place I’ve ever stayed. Plenty of hot water and pressure as well. Staff were super nice and very helpful. Really enjoyed it.

I stay here a lot, it is a funky OLD Hotel, you can see, feel (and smell) the history - Staff is always great, the Kitchen is not stocked with anything other than having a stove top - no pots, pans, silverware..... just an FYI - I am thankful for the Cary House - will go back!

Great Historic Charm in a Perfect Location! If you love vintage hotels with a lot of character, the Historic Cary House is a fantastic place to stay. It’s located right in the heart of downtown Placerville, making it incredibly convenient to step out and explore the town. Because it’s an authentic historic building, everything is on the older side. Just a heads-up for future guests: even though the rooms do have AC, the older infrastructure means it can still get a bit warm inside, so just come prepared for that! That being said, the rooms were very clean, and the beds were nice and comfortable. It's a wonderful, unique spot if you want to soak up some local history!

Pet friendly historic hotel, large suites, very friendly front desk staff, remember it’s old-so don’t expect newer amenities, historic elevator very fun to ride (again, it’s old)
Verified review

6/10 Good

This is a 170 year old hotel with an elevator from the 1920's and it does show its age but it's conveniently located right on the main street going through the tourist destination of Placerville. Acceptable cleanliness and staff was very friendly and helpful. The decor and carpeting and fixtures showed a significant amount of wear. If you're looking for the fun and the ambiance of the town it's good - if you're looking for a hotel comparable to Marriott or Hyatt it's not in that category.

10/10 Exceptional

We loved the Cary House. It's an old historic hotel, gorgeous lobby, furnished with period furniture, and an amazing old elevator. If you're into more modern and up to date furnishings and rooms, stay somewhere else. The people that work here are awesome. We'll be going back!
