Horrendous place ... do not book here
This hotel is TERRIBLE.... we arrived to a small cramped room with a broken thermostat and shower head .... there one small mirror in the room .... the beds are extremely hard and uncomfortable and the sheets are thin and hard as well .... The phones didn’t work and every time I needed something I had to walk down to the front desk, which half of the time was unattended oh and did I mention that we got stuck on the elevator ? The tiny elevator can apparently only accommodate 2 ppl ... upon getting us out, we was greeted with ATTITUDE by the front desk attendant for having 3 ppl on despite the fact that the third guy hopped in against our wishes (she directed her attitude at myself and my friend) The entire front desk staff was RUDE and I accommodating and completely ignored my requests to have my room changed ... housekeeping was also rude and EXTREMELY noisy at 9 am ... slamming doors and yelling in the hallways And then they had the audacity to try to charge me for late checkout because I left an hour late .... This is the worst place Ive ever stayed in South Beach and I would never book here again .... EVER

Hotel quality has decreased a lot
The South Beach Plaza Hotel used to be a nice place to stay but its quality has decreased significantly. The first night we were given room 318. It has terrible mattresses, a broken lamp, run-down furniture, etc. After complaining throughout the night, we were shown several rooms and found that 4 out of 5 have bad noisy mattresses, so I believe that your chance of a good night sleep is 20%. I think that bed bugs is an issue that need to be addressed too. The safety at the hotel is not good. For example, someone stole a purse from a spanish women during breakfast, we overheard her complaints and learned that the security cameras were not working. The hotel has a nice small garden with tables that it is used for breakfast, but it is infected by mosquitos. The hotel reception used to have nice Art Deco furniture but it was replaced by cheap, ugly cafeteria dark wood chairs and tables. The hotel´s fancy bar is gone! Now, it is a place were people bring their fast food. This creates a horrible fried chicken smeal that permeates the hotel lobby. The hotel building needs a lot of work. The corridors on the second and third floors are very noisy because of the lack of floor maintenance. The place has a small elevator for two people with bags, but it does not look very reliable. I was able to speak with several workers about this and other job related problems, and almost all blamed the manager. In conclusion, despite its excellent location, avoid this place.

Worst Hotel Ever.
DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. The worst experience in our lives ever. The place was a pit, smelled terrible, water never flushed or drained rooms were dark and not clean. The room was much smaller than what the pictures showed and really felt like a dungeon. We were in Miami!!!!!! Why the hell did this hotel come off as a third world country motel. I don’t understand how this place is even able to stay open. It literally had one wall outlet that was attached to a 1900’s extension cord that was wobbly. They have to be violating multiple codes. The staff were rude and didn’t appear to care at all, they lacked any form of professionalism. we were so sad about the whole experience. It was or first time in Miami. We just wanted to experience Miami and it was horrible. We left the following day due to just how disappointed we were with the hotel. We ended up going to Palm Beach and stayed at the Hilton Singer Oceanfront Hotel. It was amazing and we are so grateful to the wonderful staff there. South beach plaza should go there and really see what it’s like to be a professional. I understand this is an older hotel. But this is 2017 in the USA. There is absolutely no excuse for the condition the room was in. So much money is spent by tourists in Miami every single day they should be able to keep it up easy! They charge you a resort fee which that in if it self is laughable. It is far from a resort. There is no pool and no other amenities they would justify as a resort fee. Just a joke!

Historic but Needs Repair/Remodel
This place needs a lot of work. Very uncomfortable. Check in took too long. My brother had to go downstairs FOUR times before they gave him a working card key! Bathroom: Very small, old, stained towels, only two of each kind for 2 people. Extremely slippery tub and floor, very dangerous. No towel bars/racks! One small hook on door not enough. Nowhere to set ANYthing. Mirror too high. Couldn’t brush teeth well because shelf unit came out so far. Cheap toilet seat. Bedrooms: Everything damp. Art in Room 209 (my parents’ room) was moldy! Floors and tables very oily/sticky, and smelling of polish. No usable outlets, except one I finally found under table. Come ON, at least have an extension cord with multiple outlets! People need to charge phone and devices and perhaps iron clothes. Air conditioning (central) was buzzing very loudly all night, and the direction of air couldn’t be changed. No directions for A/C, and when I asked downstairs about it, she said she’d send maintenance. However, she had already told my brother than maintenance had left for the day (at 5pm). No extra pillows/blankets. Lobby: why was the A/C on so high?? So uncomfortable, especially for breakfast. Weird guys hanging around the lobby, couldn’t tell if they worked there, as they had no uniforms or name tags.

WORST HOTEL EVER
This was honestly the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. It was so old, ran down, the room was so small, it smelled bad. The bathrooms were moldy and rusty, honestly disgusting. The bathroom was EXTREMELY small and the toilet was so low to the ground. You can tell that they don't put any money into the hotels amenities. Everything is old and outdated. It's difficult to regulate the temperature of the room as well as the temperature of the water while showering. It is either really hot or really cold. No perfect medium. There is also no microwave or refrigerator accessible to guests, so any leftover food you may have will be a complete waste. I even made the recommendation to have a microwave available for guests and the manager said "No". While receiving ice from the ice maker there were small flies coming out of the machine into the ice bucket DISGUSTING! This hotel is the worst hotel I've ever ever EVER been to and I would not recommend it to anyone! It's old, the breakfast is terrible, the rooms are awful, and the staff sucks! Not worth the money at all. Worst "hotel" in South Beach! Complete trash!
