Decent location, dated hotel.
Stayed five nights. Hotel interior is old/dated. Elevators were slow. Bed, pillows were uncomfortable, fan/radiator were loud. After two nights, woken up by food smell in my room. Hotel changed my room, it was inconvenient to pack and unpack. Some staff were rude, unfriendly, disrespectful. Specifically, an assistant manager, Joanna who implied that I was lying when I was told by the Concierge I would be moved to a higher floor to an upgraded room. Joanna told me that I misunderstood. I was moved to a higher floor, did not receive an upgraded room. I was given a smaller room! I was very upset by this incident. Concierge, Esprit was very courteous, helpful with addressing the food odor. The engineer, John was very courteous, helpful and friendly with adjusting the fan/radiator. He went out of his way to get me a blanket in the event I turned off the heat due to the fan noise level. Was given complimentary breakfast for this inconvenience. Room was too warm, called front desk to open my window and someone came immediately. There is no doorman to open vestibule door, nor was there an automatic door opener. Hotel is not accessible friendly, I had carpal tunnel surgery and had to rely on friends to open doors for me. Lacking amenities--no shower cap, very small bath towels. No cotton ear swabs were provided. However, towels were clean, soft. No slippers provided. I expected slippers for a four star hotel. Breakfast -- omelette, crabcakes were mediocre.

Great location, unfriendly staff
We've stayed in multiple TImes Square hotels over the years (we usually go to NYC once a year). The location of this hotel is good...right in the middle of everything. Lobby is okay, nothing fancy. The front desk person that checked us in was downright unfriendly. No smile. No, "So how is everyone today, is this your first trip....?" No greeting at all. When we got to our room, we immediately noticed that the AC unit was making a loud "chugging" sounded like a train! I called to the front desk and told them the issue. They said that they'd be happy to get us a different room. When we went back downstairs, the same person said, "So, since you didn't like the room, the new one may not be ready." Well, it wasn't a case of not liking the room. The room was fine. It was the loud AC unit (clearly defective) that was the issue. She had a bad attitude all around. This soured our stay, to be honest. The rooms themselves are okay. Nothing to write home about. Not as good as Marriott Marquis , Sofitel, or Novotel. The bathrooms were nice, however. Very nice shower. The walls of the room are paper hear everything. Our room faced the front of the hotel and we heard EVERYTHING going on in the street: cars, trucks, people talking, etc. This was particularly bad the first night when there was construction going on, complete with jackhammers. Overall, not impressed with this hotel or the staff.

Exceptional 10.0
What a superb experience staying at the Kimpton Muse. From the moment we arrived, we were treated so well. The location could not be any better. It is one block off Times Square on W 46th St. Close to many great eateries, bus tours and shopping. We loved the boutique atmosphere of the hotel. Daily Happy Hour in the lobby was wonderful with free wine between 5-6pm. In the morning, free coffee in the lobby was served. They also serve breakfast, which we did not take advantage of. But it looked great. The beds and room space was perfect with full toiletries, nice linens, robes and left impeccably clean daily. The highlight of this hotel is truly the staff. Andrew, Angel and Joseph made our stay here pure perfection. Always greeted by name as we came in. They were knowledgeable about places to eat or visit. The front door staff and housekeeping staff, always had a smile on their face. Without a doubt, we would stay here again and plan on doing so for our next visit to NYC. Thank you Kimpton Muse for making us feel at home for our stay.

Exceptional 10.0
The friendliest hotel. Ever.
I've never met a more pleasant and friendly front desk staff. The gentleman who checked us in (Daniel) still remembered me the following day when, due to an oddity in our booking, our keycards stopped working. I went down, he called me by name(!) and promptly reprogrammed our keycards. The day after that, he called to us as we were leaving the hotel, again addressing my family by our last name. Even after we checked out and had to return to our room for a missing ball cap, the staff readily gave us a fresh keycard to retrieve the hat. The street out front might give you pause, but the hotel was excellent and Times Square was just half a block away. We didn't take advantage of the wine service in the evenings but we walked through as it was going on and everyone looked to be enjoying themselves. Given the proximity to Times Square, I had expected to hear lots of noise from outside at night. A previous stay at the Renaissance had resulted in a couple sleepless nights due to the hubub. No such issue at the Muse -- our room was quiet and the street never intruded. If I had one criticism, it was that the room was a bit narrow, but we fit two adults and two kids in easily enough and without issue.

Great service, but the property needs some work
I'm disappointed in this property, given that it my wife and my first visit to New York City, especially for our wedding anniversary. We arrived at the hotel at 8am after a 10 hour red eye flight from Hawaii. Angel, the front desk personnel, was very helpful securing an unoccupied room on the second floor, unit 201. We appreciated this because we wanted to get some rest and starting the day a little more awake and refreshed. Upon entering the room, we immediately noticed that the room smelled like cigarettes. Looking around for an ash tray, I we were inadvertently set up with a smoking room. So we went back down to change rooms, only to come to find that Kimpton Muse is a non-smoking property. Seems apparent that guests are smoking on this non-smoking property. Fortunately, Angel set us up with early check in for another room, but the room wasn't ready, so we set out in our tired state to get some breakfast. When we got the call at noon, we came back to set our luggage in the new unit 410. As we rested, intermittently this really loud vibration and noise would come through the walls, and last anywhere from 30 seconds to two minutes. Through my evening stays, I was awoken on several occasions startled by this unknown noise. It's Fall, the temperature outside has indeed gotten colder (40s to 50s), so hotel management decided to turn on the central heater with no ability to moderate the temperature. I called housekeeping, and they opened the windows to cool the air down.
