This hotel has gone through renovations and I probably got a room that was not fully ready for occupancy. None of the appliances and lamps were plugged in. The bedside lamp did not have an outlet to plug. There is very little counter space in the bathroom for toiletries. There was a small desk with a chair that doubled as a work table or for dining. The room had a sofa but no side table to put down a drink. The tv was behind the sofa and to watch it you have to sit on the bed. Number of channels is very limited. The stove took forever to boil one cup of water to make tea. Then for the last two days because of storms in the area the hotel lost half of its power supply with the result that for over 36 hours there was light but no power for AC, all appliances, TV and no hot water and no wifi. The room layout needs to be changed to be more user friendly. On the plus side the staff was very friendly.

The natural friendliness of the staff is what made the stay in TownePlace Suites-Metairie/New Orleans restful and pleasant. Not an artificial, forced or obligatorily prescribed bonhomie, but a casual friend-like welcome and hospitality. Housekeeping manager Carla Johnson in particular, who was usually at the front desk when I had a question, was always helpful and good-humored and treated us like family. It was my first hotel stay during the pandemic, but the staff of Metairie TownePlace Suites still managed to provide comfort and amenities while keeping the guests as safe and protected as possible. The threat of Hurricane Ida came as I was leaving, but the staff are experienced in such eventualities, and the morning of August 28th all of the outdoor furniture had been thrown into the pool so that the predicted high winds wouldn't carry the objects off and cause damage (see photo). My thoughts are with New Orleans - and I hope everyone will be safe and all will be well with little disruption to the power/water and services in the wake of Hurricane Ida. I look forward to returning soon.
