Good Well-Kept Hotel
This was a nice hotel in a good location (except that it's in an Uber-Free zone). We were upgraded to a loft unit, which sounds great, unless you're in your 70's climbing a very steep, very slippery hardwood staircase several times in a day. Staff was efficient and friendly, but very stiff with rules (i.e. "Its only 2:55pm, I said your room would be ready by 3:00pm"). Rooms were pricey, but included a very nice breakfast.

Excellent hotel in Basel
The hotel is very convenient for those travelling by train. You are given a Basel card by the hotel when you arrive and this card gives you free public transport on their extensive tram network as well as half price admission to museums and other attractions. The room was excellent as was the bio breakfast with the staff in the breakfast room very helpful with advice on local attractions. We would stay there again.

Highly recommended.
Located next to main train station and with free rides on the excellent tram system Gaia is a great deal on a high value hotel with great access to all sites.

Charmer near train station
Charming hotel in great location and lovely service. Only issue for some people would be the stairs. Would absolutely stay here again!

Great staff, inadequate air conditioning
The staff here is truly wonderful, always trying to be helpful and welcoming. In fact, they may be the best overall staff I've ever encountered in a hotel (and I travel a lot). But the hotel itself has a few issues. In its quest for environmentalism, it does sacrifice comfort. My issues were that the beds are futon-like, and not that comfortable. The pillows are so massive I could not sleep without straining my neck. And most significantly for me, the air conditioning is questionable. I'm used to the American approach to room temperature, which is about 70 degrees F year-round. On my visit here, it was 68 degrees outside, but over 80 degrees in the room. Even with the windows open, the room never fully cooled down. We were switched to another room, which had two levels. The lower level / sitting area had great air conditioning, but there was no air conditioning on the upper level where the bedroom and bathroom were. Would I stay here again? Yes, but not in the summer.
