Very good
Great stay close to Boston Common.
Very nice stay. The hotel has a 5pm wine reception for guests, you can mingle and get a free glass of wine. My partner liked the mulled wine. The breakfast is very standard, croissants, 1 type of pastry, fresh fruit, coffee/water/juice, 3 types of cheese, pork cold cut, and jam for croissants (I may have left out a couple things). There was a housekeeping issue when I checked in, someone had left personal items in my room and they were not removed prior to check in. This was remedied quickly and staff was apologetic and bought us dinner (via room service credit). The only issue we really had with the hotel was that the keycards were troublesome. We had to call the front desk twice to let us in our rooms. The first time was fine. The second time, the desk attendant was clearly flustered and told us that we needed to keep our key cards away from our cell phones and that was our problem. Neither of us kept our keycards with our phones. Also, we were in the elevator multiple times with multiple guest where 5-6 different guests could not get our keycards to operate the elevator and we would have to switch elevators or find a guest who could get their card to work. This review seems to be full of complaints but I would like to say overall that the hotel is nice. The city skyline view from the room was beautiful. We loved the wine reception. The GM was personable. The location was perfect. Would stay again.

Fair
Surprised my wife with a short anniversary trip. Upon telling them this, hotel offered a "complimentary upgrade" and a "special gift, bottle of wine, champaign, cheese plate, or something like that." Wow, we thought! We arrived 5pm to check in (after dropping bags earlier in the day) and were told the "room wasn't quite ready. "They're doing something special and getting it just right. We'll text you it's ready." We killed another 1.5hrs, reluctantly and around 6:45pm I approached the desk pretty tired and flustered, and was told the room has been ready a while, and someone must have forgot to message you. Strike 1. We get to our room on the top floor and it is incredibly small, with fingerprints all over the door/walls and a toilet that is dirty inside. And nothing "special" at all. I immediately call down and ask if there was some confusion because of what we were told and how long we waited, but told "The top floor was your only upgrade," and a special "gift" was still coming. No gift ever arrived the whole trip. I complained again and was told they would refund $75 for our check in delay. Also, never been seen. After the trip we were charged an extra $677 by mistake, which was refunded after a long phone call, and being told "we don't show a charge constantly." There is some kind of communication breakdown with this hotel and none of my questions regarding what we were told were ever addressed. I travel for a living, and this is disappointing in a 4+ star.

Very good
Excellent except the air conditioning noise.
We would certainly recommend this hotel for everything apart from the fact that the airconditioning in our room, (1902) was very noisy during the night. We turned our unit off but the pipework gurgled and was noisy throughout each and every night. We are fairly light sleepers and had to wear earplugs. Interestingly it never seemed so bad during the day - and other ambient noise distracts anyway - but at night; GRRRR! We had complained once and were moved rooms but couldn't face another change - especially if every room was the same - which we don't know is the case. The views from the city view rooms are great and we were on the top, (19th floor). The rest of the hotel is great - good plentiful continental breakfast and a lovely lounge bar, (where you take your breakfast) - but note that the bar closes after breakfast on Sundays and Mondays which seemed a shame as the drinks and food were good. There is, however a "wine hour" in the lobby for guests every day between 5 and 6 when they serve free wine! The hotel is spotlessly clean and the staff in all areas are lovely. The hotel decor is fresh and slightly funky without being over the top. The location is spot on, right next to Boston Common and you can start the Freedom Trail right outside the hotel. The only downside therefore for us was the air conditioning system - but if you take your earplugs and are aware of it then don't let it put you off as you will probably find that the rest of the hotel is worth it.

Exceptional
If I could give Nine Zero a bonus star, I would!
Realizing the importance of detailed reviews - especially for those like me who carefully plan vacations off of actual experiences - I write this review with great pleasure! My kids call me "Hotel Snob" - I tend to be a critical person/perfectionist. If I could give Nine Zero a bonus 6th star, I would! Literally everything about our stay was perfect! Check in; 2 ladies (both Liz) were very kind & accommodating. Arriving disheveled after a nightmarish red eye flight with horrible customer service... the airline lost our car seat/stroller. "The Liz's" were receptively sympathetic, immediately offering us fruit-infused, ice cold water & they rushed for a early check in. We were relaxing in our room within 15 mins. I'm not sure what the other rooms look like - perhaps they upgraded us, having felt sorry for us - but the room we received far exceeded our expectations! (From what I've read in other hotel reviews, Boston hotel rooms are typically smaller, minimal amenities - big city standards). Our room had 2 comfortable queen beds & plenty of space for 5 of us. Impeccably cleaned, modern decor, AND THE VIEWS couldn't have been better! 18th floor overlooking Boston Common, Park Street Church, St Charles river & plenty of city lights. Everyday of our 6 day stay was just as perfect. Everyone we encountered of Kimpton staff was friendly & helpful. Receiving random texts, inquiring about our stay, was an extra bonus. Every detail of your services were PERFECT! We will be back!

Exactly what I needed
Excellent stay from start to finish. Perfect spot for my stay during a conference in town. Staff was very friendly. The decor is very on brand for Kimpton. Comfy bed. Nice bathroom. If I had one little nit, it's that, as is the case in more and more hotels, there is no proper desk if you need to sit and do some work somewhere (or eat in the room). Just two small nesting tables. Location is great. Right across the street from Boston commons. Would definitely come back to Kimpton Nine Zero on future Boston trips.
