Perfectly Acceptable for the price
As noted ,the hotel is dated and heavily in need of a upgrade. Still perfectly functional for somewhere to sleep. A/c works ,nice firm bed, plenty of storage space The excellent location is such that there is no need to be at the hotel for any other reason. Many hotels are now not doing a daily service as a accepted Eco factor ( and cost saving ) . The replenishment supplies are in the lobby adjacent to the lifts so no biggy to help yourself on the way up, unless you are precious and need personal service However I think some peoples expectations are unrealistic . You get whay you ( or don't ) pay for When you are paying a bargain price compared to other 4 star properties in SG, then don't expect Ritz features. The rooms are twice the size of most more expensive hotels .On this trip we stayed in a similar $$ hotel in another area and it was identical age / condition Did you know Singapore is one of the few places in SE Asia where you can drink the tap water - you don't NEED bottled water !!

Not so great!
Positives: Reasonable price and very good location in Chinatown, close to food outlets, hawker markets and easy walk to Singapore river. Negatives: The building is tired and whilst the rooms are reasonably spacious the beds are extremely hard, even with a topper. The breakfast bain marie's failed to keep the food warm, and although there appeared to be a reasonable variety a lot of it lacked quality and was not palatable. The 'maje your own ' waffles were fresh and hot, and the breaded pudding was great, but the rest pretty poor. The bar was offering beer specials at $3, $4 and $5 at various hours of the afternoon, followed by a 2 for 1 happy hour. What they didn't tell you was that the normal beer price for a small Tiger was $16 (plus taxes). Restaurants nearby charged $6, so it was a real surprise when the bar bill arrived. You might consider paying a bit more for a greater level of comfort and service.
