Pluses outweigh minuses
We'd stayed here several times before in different apartments. Generally, all the apartments are spacious and well appointed with basic needs such as toilet paper, kitchen utensils, appliances, etc. Obviously we like it overall or we wouldn't keep coming back. This time we stayed in apartment 11E. It had a few drawbacks we hadn't encountered before. The main problem was the bathroom. There was very little counter space. We put stuff on top of the commode tank lid since the sink area was too small. The tub floor was not rigid, but flexed a bit when you stepped on it, which made you feel a bit off balance. The sides of the tub were about twenty inches high, so stepping in and out required extra caution to avoid tripping. The toilet bowl wasn't well cleaned. You could see mildew or mold beneath the inside rim of the bowl. The kitchen had a minor drawback in that the refrigerator was rather close to the counter across from it. The light switches were difficult to find and use. Three switches were on the far side of the fireplace, but only two did anything. A light bulb was missing from one of the lamps. Driving through the village is a bit difficult. Several roadways and drive thru areas were rather narrow so that two vehicles could not pass each other or it was a very tight fit. Some apartments have no view or a bad one compared to others. But it is inexpensive and most rooms are very nice. It's a great location too. Near food and stores and scenic.

Pleasant stay
The rooms were very nice. They were clean. There were lots of things for the kids to do. I only have 2 complaints. The parking is tight. We had 2 vehicles but there was only room for 1 vehicle. One car had to be parked way down the hill. Plus because someone in another unit had a bug truck you couldn’t get pass it to get out you had to turn you vehicle around and go out the other end. Which if they didn’t park close to the door you barely had enough room to get by because there was a wall on the other side . The second complaint is the indoor pool was cold. The kids enjoyed it while I enjoyed the hot tub.

Checking in 🙄
I was greeted by a hotel clerk that told me that I didn’t have a booking as a joke. This is a resort I expected to be welcomed with open arms like any other resort I’ve stayed at. I laughed at the bad joke and told my wife “ok let’s drive home” to which she quickly apologized. After checking in she advised if we needed anything to call she’s “there all the time because my husband has a business where he’s at work all the time also.” Great. You’ve already offended my wife and I and then tell us there is no one else we can deal with. We were here two years ago under different management and it was a dream. This is not what we dealt with previously. They are making major improvements to the property but major downgrades to front desk staff.

Not for people with allergies or asthma
This facility uses fragrances laundry products for washing bed and bath linens. This is bad for allergy and asthma sufferers. I had a difficult time sleeping as a result. These products are totally unnecessary; why pollute that pure mountain air? The dishwasher didn’t work. We ran a load of not very dirty dishes and ended up having to hand wash all of them.

Not a bad stay!
The resort is under new ownership with a schedule for remodeling over the next few years. The resort is in a very convenient location to Banner Elk, Emerald Mtn, Beech Mtn, Blowing Rock, etc. The room was very spacious! Very appreciate of the full size appliances and washer/dryer. Carpet had a humongous stain on the floor and not the cleanest.

Lackluster compared to years ago.
They don’t accept cash even though the hotels.com reservation indicated that I could. The staff was very helpful in solving the issue. If a property is going to be a construction zone upon arrival then a polite warning would be nice. It was under heavy construction the entire stay. Also, if the property advertises an ‘indoor pool’ it would be in good taste to inform its guests when said pool will not be heated in any way. The pool had to be between 45-50 degrees...frigid the entire stay. The ‘putt putt course’ was cute but looked like it could use a complete overhaul. Everything was rotted, cracked and/or had paint peeling off of it...not to mention having no real sense of being level at all. We had been to this establishment twice before and had a wonderful experience both times. I will probably be back but it would have been nice to have been forewarned about all of the construction and the absolutely insane policy of not accepting cash.

The pool was not heated. The fishing rule of catch and release is not good, Trout die when caught and released, and is a waste of fish.

Very nice setting in a NC mountain setting. The only minor problem we had was that one of the bedroom's TV did not work and the lamp light bulb was burned out in a bedroom . The staff should be checking this before each reservation. Also there was no Wi-Fi.
