4/10 Fair

Overall disappointment
The room was large but not very efficient. No storage for clothing or hooks of any kind. Bottled water was not available for purchase (we were told by the front desk “the tap works”), and there was a water cooler hiding around the corner in the lobby, but it was not plugged and therefore warm. Despite telling the receptionist when we checked in how excited we were to try the bistro for breakfast, she never cautioned us to make sure we made a reservation. This bistro was the whole reason we chose the Juniper and we weren’t able to get in unfortunately. It would have been helpful if she had given us that tip. Other than that, the room was clean and it was nice and close to town. The front desk did not want to call a cab for us.

6/10 Good

Reasonable stay, some issues
The hotel is refurbished 1950s style, with a lot of the original character left. Convenient location and easy parking. Unfortunately the walls/floors/doors are very thin and it’s easy to be woken up by neighbors around and above. The view from the room was great, but it is perched above a major highway and the noise can be distracting here as well. My biggest issue was that the front desk employee was frequently smoking a few feet from the front door when we came and went and walking through that was not a great experience.

6/10 Good

The property is off hwy 1, and away from Banff downtown. The setting is nice. It was quite inconvenient that there was no elevator to the second floor. There was no ramp to the second floor, so the guest staying at the second floor need to carry the luggage over the stairs.

8/10 Very good

I have stayed at this property before and enjoy its quiet, forest location looking out over Banff from above the trans-Canadian highway. However, the tradeoff is a car or taxi is needed to get into Banff. It also has a great bistro on site, but this is now only open for dinner Thursday-Sunday. So if you want on-site dinning check your day of the week. I also discovered that there is no elevator and if you have a lot of luggage getting it to the rooms on the first floor will need help from the staff. Regardless I enjoy the mountain lodge atmosphere and reasonable facilities, and will happily stay there again, preferably on an evening when the bistro is open.
