Disappointing for Embassy Suites.
There are a few issues with this stay which I did not expect because I genuinely have liked Embassy Suites. The parking lot attached to the hotel had a homeless person living between the 4th and 5th level stairwell. You need to take an elevator to get past them. They were harmless but physically impeded you using the stairs. The stairwell also smelled strongly of urine. While not the hotel’s parking garage, it is attached to Embassy Suites and the Marriott across the street. Which means it is where you will park while staying at the Embassy Suites Winston-Salem. I’m the room, there was one single trash can for the whole suite - the small bin in the bathroom. The coffee maker was a Keurig and was inoperable. I could not close it, rendering it useless. The in-room phone to call the front desk was similarly inoperable. There were coffee packets (small filter packs for a drip brew) but not K-cups. There were no condiments (creamer, stirrer, sugar) for the coffee. The good things: it was spacious and near the Benton convention center. Staff were nice and helpful. I didn't use the workout room and didn't have time for the breakfast.

Check-in Nightmare and Rude Staff
Booked our hotel room 5 months in advance. We arrived at 4 pm. Instead of being warmly welcomed to the hotel, I was greeted by a very irritated front desk assistant who snapped that there were no rooms ready yet and that she could not tell me if it would be ready in 2 minutes or in 2 hours, so not to bother asking. She told me she needed my cell phone number and that she would call me when and if my room became ready and then wrote it on a post-it note. I stayed in the lobby waiting for our room and watched the exact same scenario play out with over 100 guests. We asked if we could have our happy hour tickets while we were waiting in the lobby, and were told no, that they were not allowed to give them to guests until they were checked in. The lobby was crowded with stranded guests and luggage. We left the hotel to go get dinner at 6 and were told our room was still not ready and were promised they would call when it was. At 8, we still had not received a call, so I called and was told that my room was ready. I asked why I had not received a call and was told they had too many people to call. We returned and were able to get into our room 5 hours after trying to check-in. No apology was made, no discount was offered, and a requested late check-out was denied. We watched as the experience was played out over and over again. We were all treated like we were an inconvenience. Will not return to this hotel next year. The breakfast crew is fabulous and only bright spot!

The front desk that never could
Got here at the hotel around 2:30 p.m. we stood in line behind five other people already at that time to check in and we were told that no rooms were available or cleaned they were working fast as they could they were not even taking names down yet that just sit over to the side and they would come get us when the rooms were done fast forward four and a half hours later and we're still waiting. By this time they have gave us free bottles of water every time they walk by their apologizing for this apologizing for that and it was just monotonous time gone by to check in a hotel of this caliber. I am a handicap individual so my weekend was destroyed due to how long I had to sit in this lobby waiting because my car was parked off site at a parking deck. The amenities was half closed, they don't even really have a restaurant working the finger food was cheese and we got a free beer because it being the embassy they did not offer a discount they did not offer upgrades they did not offer a free drinks free meals anything outside what we already get due to the name itself of the hotel brand. This was a utter disaster and I'm not the only one we're talking over a hundred people done the same way I would just happen to be one of the longer ones that waited. And then on top of that they did not even give the first available rooms to us the ones that waited the longest and people that had handicapped situations

Not a bad stay.
Our stay was nice. I was very pleased with the staff and the breakfast was wonderful. The beds were very comfortable and soft. We stayed in a Premium 2 bedroom suite and with the charge for that room you would expect better furniture. The seat cushions were really thin and you could feel the frame of the sofa bed. I also didn't like was the rough repair of the ceiling in our bedroom, we had to request additional bedding which is normally kept in the closet in the rooms and the high charge for parking was not expected.
