Sleepless in New York
Had to cancel stay prematurely due to outside noise which resulted in a complete lack of sleep. For a hotel situated on Fifth Avenue, the windows were not insulated to shut out outdoor sound. It was like having the city inside the room with us. Spoke to the office clerk who said that's what to expect being in a city and suggested the use of ear plugs. Unfortunately ear plugs didn't work either. So once we left we attempted to get a refund to which the hotel management refused. I'm aware that it was a non refundable payment, however this was an awful experience which was not our fault. The hotel should be prepared for this, especially with the high cost of a room. Was a bad start to our trip to New York which we had looked forward to a lot. Very disappointed indeed.

Very good 8.0
Overall Okay
The hotel was a little difficult to find, as soon as I entered the door an employee was sitting, playing on his phone and said "you need something?" Yes, obviously we're here to check in. Luckily the nice young man who does the overnight front desk shift was kind and made us feel comfortable. The AM front desk attendant was kind as well. There were issues with the noise level every night on my floor. We had rowdy folks where I was awaken during 2:30am-6:30am. On the second night I was livid at 5am, having to endure hours of obnoxious noise, I immediately called the front desk and the same employee who greeted us initially "assesesed" the situation. He spoke on the radio and stated "She heard the room next to her from the TV." Which wasn't the case, it was 3 doors down and a group of 5 men. They were obnoxiously overbearing and rude, we had bumped into them one day during the elevator and they completely ran us over in the small elevator. He knocked on our neighbors door and explained guest were complaining about th TV. Not only did I feel bad about how he wrongly accused folks, he didn't bother to wait to see what it might be. As soon as he left to go back downstairs (all which I can clearly hear) the guests abruptly began to be loud AGAIN. I only complain because it was 3 nights in a row between 3:30am-6:30am. I loved the hotel and enjoyed the friendly face for the night front desk and am staff member. Overall it was okay, may not come back due to the noise.

Based on the web pictures, it looked fine as a slightly lower cost alternative on what must have been a high tourist time (Oct 16-18). At almost $450/night, it was a very poor hotel. A clueless and unwelcoming clerk at 2:30 AM, a room with no hangers or way to hang clothes, the "desk chair" was a cloth covered foot rest with no back, the desk so small with room only for a laptop and small pad of paper that I had to put the phone on the floor to use the desk. Would be fine at a lower cost but I will never stay there again.

Exceptional 10.0
Best Service Ever!
This is one review I couldn’t wait to make. I booked this hotel because of the price and proximity to where I needed to be for my stay. I didn’t realize it was literally right catty corner from the Empire State Building. Besides the excellent location, the room was small (as most in NYC) but the bed was comfortable, the room was clean and the amenities were fine. There were some small things about the room that were a little below excellent, but really so minor when compared to the service. Because as nice as the room and location are, the reason I highly recommend this hotel is their front desk manager John! Honestly the best guest service I’ve ever gotten in NY or anywhere else. I was staying one night in one of their cheapest rooms and he treated me like I was a high roller in Vegas! First he remember me from a phone call I made the day before asking about early check-in. Because my flight was very early, I had hoped to get into the room early to rest but at least wanted to store my bags. At check-in he told me he should be able to get me in within an hour or so and then graciously gave me a coupon for a free breakfast next door while I waited. Then as I was finishing up at the cafe next door, John came in WITH my room keys to let me know my room was ready! He then walked me back to the elevator where my bags were ready to go. Amazing. He was also really helpful advising me when i expressed interest in extending my stay. Will definitely stay again if I can!

Poor 2.0
Not as advertised - did not like this hotel
Not as advertised: Description states safe in room - there are no safes in any room - confirmed with hotel staff. Pictures of room misleading, there is literally nothing else to the room; they must have taken the picture from the hallway. You hear EVERYTHING from every other room - do not expect privacy and brink ear plugs. I get no-frills hotels, but I was further shocked by no closet to hang clothes. There were a few decorative hooks that I used, but this was not cool. Ok location - long block walk to subway. Starbucks in the building. Bed was very comfortable. Like that they use fitted sheets. Likely will not stay here again unless it is my absolute last choice.
