Not in the best area
It’s always difficult selecting a hotel in a large city when you don’t have any idea of the area. We picked this as it seemed close to the centre. However the location isn’t great as there are no nice restaurants nearby. Public transport is close by. The hotel was clean, beds comfortable, room large- although we had a courtyard view - which meant looking over a small gap to the next side - you couldn’t see the sky and it was dark. Good bathroom and shower. We didn’t eat in the hotel- the ground level was a bit of an unpleasant smell. Helpful friendly staff though

Quiet environment, away from noise and traffic
The front desk officers asked us to wait for 20 minutes, then another 1 minute, lastly 20 minutes before we could check in. Scripted acting, the delay of giving of a room depends how the customers appear as rich or cheap. They readily told us there was no room available, or the rooms needs to be cleaned, so they kept on buying the time for us to wait. It was on their third attempt to delay our checking in, that means almost more than 2 hours, when I raised my voice, and asked what is due to us when we had long reserved the room, that a room was immediately given. Is HOLIDAY INN at BUENAVISTA, Mexico, impliedly prioritizing matrons, patrons, rich customers as compared to simple wearing jeans young tourists who wanted to explore Mexico City? Worst, the front desk officer made a huge mistake of charging my credit card of $10,000 for 5 days stay. This made Bank of America blocked my credit and debit cards in my transactions. At the end of the stay, the manager sent a platter of fruits in my room. There was no note of being sorry for the inconvenience and racial (?) discrimination done to us. My cousin and I are from Asia and we reside in USA. We look young and dress simply but we are not cheap people. We dressed and behaved decently, gave generous tips to individuals who helped us to make our stay with comforts. The front desk officers in the Holiday Inn in Buenavista branch should learn "not to judge the book by its cover". - Leonie Dionson from Maryland, USA

Holiday Inn Buenavista Review
I chose this hotel based on Holiday Inn reputation and past experience. I stayed here for 8 nights my my vacation. I'm from Calgary, Canada. The pros: * Nice modern hotel. * Room was very clean. * Breakfast buffet was excellent. Lots to choose from for any type of diet and good for a tourist who doesn't like to overly experiment with foreign foods. * Pool and gym on the roof were really awesome. Best hotel gym I have EVER seen. (You won't miss a beat with your workouts. * Staff were very professional; helpful and friendly. Cons: * Switched rooms after three days. Was in #323. Floor was SLOPED (??). Could not sit properly at the desk. I felt like the chair wanted to start rolling backwards. Asked the manager if this was because of the earthquake and he said No, the whole third floor had this problem. * Had to get room swipe card re-activated three or four times because it just randomly stopped working. Annoying. * Hotel was in a real grungy area of the city. Definitely NOT the kind of neighborhood I would recommend for a tourist to go walking around in at night. Also, nothing of interest nearby within walking distance to do in the evenings. * The hotel taxis charge triple what the city taxis do. (But to give them credit they are semi-fluent in english which you won't find with city taxis).

I had a room reservation for special needs with two beds but when I check in they told me they didn't had a room with two beds only one king bed I ask the receptionist for a roll in bed but she said they didnt had any and if I want the room or not or a regular room? Since we were 3 persons and need a extra bed we took the room with two beds it was really hard for my mother to be in a room without her necessities but the next day I explained the front desk manager what happened and she was so kind gave ask the room with special necessity, one king bed and a roll in bed....After all my mom was really happy to stay in this hotel beside of the problem we had when we check in.

Clean quiet room, good and varied breakfast.
The room we had was non-smoking, so overlooked atrium, and no views, but was very quiet. Aircon not as effective as we would have liked. Not all reception staff speak English - 2 of the younger concierge staff had much better language skills. These 2 young men were also very helpful. Mostly staff were helpful and polite, although some of breakfast staff were less than helpful/inviting. There was also some miscommunication between the pool staff and reception staff, which caused difficulties on our last day. Lovely if underused pool area on top floor, but no private changing areas. Housekeeping not always efficient at remembering to replenish coffee, cups, etc - but helpful in hallways when prompted. This was a business trip so wifi connectivity was important. It was also great being able to freshen up after long flight (before room was ready) and on last day before going to airport; pool area was great for this, We have just booked again!
