Fair 4.0
I did not receive the room I booked. There were two different water view rooms with 1 King bed at the time of the booking with different rates and different water views. The lower rate had a single window in the room pictured. The higher rate had a two corner windows. I selected the higher rate with the anticipation of two corner windows, received room with single window, low floor with the partial view of the roof below. I was told by front office manager that the room I booked is not available and when asked for an upgrade I was told I would have to pay the difference. This room still is advertise as such - two different rates, same description, different pictures. This was our first visit to Boston and I my last visit to this hotel. Boston is a beautiful city, but the service in InterContinental very disappointing. Suggestion to the hotel - It is not really good impression when front desk staff smells like tobacco. Why is Orbitz showing two rates for the same room? When I asked front desk who's fault is this, I was told it is nobody's fault.... I did not received a refund of the rate difference either. According to another staff member I am not a first guest that complained about this situation. False advertising.

Fair 4.0
I stayed solo three nights at this hotel STAFF:.Best among the staff were the concierge. Both gentlemen were wonderful and very helpful, very friendly and polite The restraurant server treated me like a very special guest.. House service staff was excellent. I have taken stars off for the rude treatment I received at the swimming pool from a staff( a guy in a black suit).I had walked to the Boston tea party ship in the freezing temps. Back in the hotel in the evening, I was trying to find the hot tub at the pool. This man came rushing and very rudely started to ask me if I was a guest at the hotel! Then kept asking me on and on my room # and so on. Questions didn't bother me, it was his very rude attitude. I have never been treated rudely at any hotel in the country. And this is supposed to be a 4-5 star ,expensive hotel. The young lady at the check in desk was nice, but she never gave any information. I had to call multiple times to get any info. There was nothing in the room for any info about the hotel. Swimming pool was terrible. Pools in cheaper hotels are better.

Good 6.0
Overall the hotel was lovely. When checking in, the man at the front desk upgraded us to a higher floor and gave us free drink tickets because I had to wait a couple minutes to check in. He was very nice and polite. The Suite was very large and had a great view of the seaport. Room service food was excellent and delivery was quick. I would have given the hotel and experience a five star review, however, both my husband and I (separate from each other) encountered the same rude employee. She was a brown haired woman at the front desk who, when I asked about check out times, responded with a disrespectful attitude and was rather condescending. Her behavior toward me was unacceptable of a hotel front desk employee. In my husband’s interaction, he was checking out with the same woman and he was told he was all set, at which point he thanked her and left. While waiting for our driver, she came running out, yelling about him owing money for the world to hear. Firstly, she should have made sure everything was settled before telling my husband that he was “all set” . Secondly, she should not be yelling personal information outside. It is not hard to quietly approach my husband and ask him to please come back inside. As I said, the only reason for the 3 star review was this employee otherwise the hotel was excellent

Exceptional 10.0
The Intercontinental is a wonderful hotel - and has made me a customer for life. We traveled with our 10-month-old daughter, and when we called to ask where we could dispose dirty diapers (whether there was a trash chute, etc.) - they sent a staffer up to retrieve said diaper (and another one a half hour after that). This continued throughout our stay. The valets are all wonderful, friendly, and were sweet to our baby. I can't speak to housekeeping as we kept Do Not Disturb up during our stay (since we had various baby gear around the room!) but I would assume it is on par with the rest of the hotel which is fabulous. The only two items that stood out were a breakfast at the Miel - even though I informed our waiter that I was waiting for my husband to arrive at our table, he continued to come back to try and take the order every few minutes, including when my husband arrived, before he had even had a chance to sit down. This was a little disconcerting, but really not a big deal. The other issue was the crib. I had called in advance to inquire about how their cribs are sanitized and was assured that they are disinfected and kept "practically like new." When we arrived, it was nice to have the crib waiting in the room, but it was not in good shape - clearly older, painted metal bars with scuffs/scrapes all over it. I did not feel comfortable putting the baby in there to sleep, and she slept in bed with us instead. Still a fantastic hotel - will stay again!

Poor 2.0
Disappointed
I came to the hotel for a few days of relaxation after a busy week in the office. I live in the area. The air conditioner in my room did not work. I was moved to a new room and given an upgrade for one of the two nights I stayed. The air conditioning in the second room also did not work. Maintenance was sent to repair it. After two hours, he repaired the air-conditioning. The toilet would not flush. I called three times for the repairs. I had to leave and go to a restaurant to use the restroom. By 5 PM the toilet was fixed. However, my key stopped working and I had to go to the front desk and get new keys. This was my second time for keys on the same day. I ordered French toast. It came in a dish soggy, wet, and standing in water. I returned the food and did not have breakfast. A manager called and said I would be refunded for the food. However, it wasn’t until I checked the bill three times that the food (I did not eat ) was taken off of the bill. There was no top sheet on the bed. I asked for a second sheet in for the bed to be remade. I was given a second sheet and to make the bed myself. I came to the hotel to get away from the normal noise of my life. The phone in the hotel room rain more from the staff than ever in my office. Hotel staff were in and out of the room fixing the room constantly. I am going home and back to the office without a day of rest and very disappointed.
