Excellent Service in a Charming but Aging Hotel
We booked a long weekend last minute and Hotel Corona d’Italia was one of the few rooms left available in our price range. The location was excellent as it was close to the train station and also adjacent to the San Lorenzo area market. On the first night I noticed our mini fridge wasn’t cold and the handle of the shower fell off. I reported these things the next morning to the front desk- the fridge was replaced the following day but the faucet handle was not repaired during our stay (it was still possible to turn on and adjust the temperature, just a bit tricky to do without the handle). I was grateful for the two elevators, but beware of the broken hand rail. We enjoyed the breakfast but wish there was a bit more available- often I had to ask for simple things like spoons, drinking glasses and honey, and only once was I lucky enough to get a small slice of omlette as it was brought out from the kitchen to the buffet. My only other note would be to update the baby crib and baby high chair. Both were very old and not safe to use. All staff members were friendly and helpful and because of their excellent service I would not hesitate to return to Corona d’Italia.

Staff were great and very friendly, hotel room is not as updated as picture relates but definitely good for a night or two. Excellent breakfast in the morning. Extremely close to everything, shopping, restaurants, and all the attractions. Would stay here again!

Pros- Very convenient location next to the Mercato area and very close to train station. Clean room. Free VIP bottle of wine given (although I didn’t drink it). Cons- Window couldn’t close properly on the 1st day. Continental breakfast buffet spread did not have much variety. Air condition didn’t work leaving the room at 28 degrees (!!) and when we complained 3 days in a row the male receptionist insisted he checked and “there was nothing wrong”. His attitude was also very rude to us, making it sound like we should tolerate the high temperature . When we asked for his name he refused to give it! Although it’s only a 3-star hotel, it doesn’t mean staff can be so rude to paying customers!!

Corona d'Italia is a very convenient walk to and from the Florence SMN train station. Typical stazione hotel, small but clean room with small bath. Bed was comfortable and the breakfast was good. We were only there for a night but if it was a longer stay I'd like a bit more space. Internet connection was spotty. For the price I'd say it was fair.
