Would Recommend for Everyone
We had an absolutely amazing trip to Black Rock. It was our honeymoon and everyone at the resort was extremely welcoming. The amenities were top tier and the room and view were out of this world. 10/10 experience.

Good but could be so excellent
When you first arrive and see the views you think wow this is an amazing hotel but there were so many niggles. We arrived at 1pm after a long car journey but there wasn’t any options for food even a sandwich. We decided on a swim in the pool - it was tiny (really just a splash pool) with only about three sun-loungers which were taken. There were some wooded chairs which were surprisingly comfortable. When we went into our room we again thought wow, it was huge and looked well appointed. However ours was at the side facing a load of trees and it was so dark. The whole hotel treats it lighting like its name! They proudly declare no air conditioning in the room and suggest leaving the window open. Unfortunately it doesn’t mention the pocket mosquito doors which we weren’t aware of until the last night. The result being the first night we were bitten alive and the second it felt like we were in a hot house. Perhaps they were trying to be environmentally friendly but if so why the huge bath and rainbow shower?? We did eat our evening meals in the restaurant and the staff were very friendly especially in the lounge. Again the views were incredible. Prices in the lounge were reasonable. In Currents the high end restaurant we had the tasting menu with paired wines. Loved the food but the wine pairings were a little boring - a Chardonnay and a Sauvignon Blanc - very conventional. There was a German pudding wine though that was delicious. Overall good but could be excellent.

Great place with room for improvement
Great location and very friendly staff. Restaurant has a nice ocean view from most tables and breakfast there was very good. Did not try for dinner. My only real complaint was they shut off all heating in the summer so as the season nears it can turn somewhat chilly at night so there was no way to bring up the heat, only to cool the unit by opening doors. The check in/out parking by reception was always full even though the reception desk was empty so not sure what that was. I ended up parking away from the reception and just walked down to check in. The bathroom door didn’t lock and the glass partition between the bath tub/ washroom didn’t fully close so when a group was in the room it felt a little strange. The shower was t able to turn on the rain head and wand at the same time but I’m not sure if that was a fault or design. Overall it was an enjoyable stay but had just enough small irritating factors to put a slight damper on the experience. I would still recommend this resort however.

Lovely location and rooms. Easy access from the resort to the pacific and local trails and the rocks were a lot of fun for the kids to climb on !! The lounge restaurant was great. Very tasty food and fantastic views though would recommend allowing 30 mins for seating at busy times
