Very good 8.0
Good value and great location.
Great area of town and very easy to walk the old town. The shower is tiny and very easy to bump and change the water temperature when you move around. Great bed but awakened very early one morning with late night revelers walking past the room. Would stay there again.

Parking is about 10 minutes walk from the hotel, and parking entrance was extremely narrow. There is no elevator. Location is close to old town.

Highly Recommend
This is a truely charming boutique hotel right at the edge of the old town district, within easy walking distance of all the old town has to offer and conveniently located right at a tram stop. I selected one of the art rooms for our brief 1 night stay. The room was massive and very comfortably appointed with a large en suite bath and very nice appointments (large tub, hair dryer, high end toiletries, Nespresso machine, free bottled water, etc). The highly rated restaurant is nothing short of amazing and we enjoyed a lovely lunch as well as a sumptious breakfast. We felt the Der Teufelhof was a very good value and will definately plan to stay here again on a future trip. Two issues of note when considering the hotel: There is not an elevator for SOME of the rooms. This was not an inconvenience for us as the desk staff hauled our luggage up when we arrived and down in the morning, but you may want to request elevator access if mobility is an issue. Second, the windows in our room opened over the street served by the tram. We thought this might be a problem but apparently the tram does not run very late as we never heard it durring the night. The bed was so comfortable we slept like babies!

Great service and location
This hotel is located in a pleasant neighborhood within a few blocks of the Marktplace. The staff members were extremely helpful; the receptionist helped carry our luggage upstairs, and answered our many questions about the area. The decor in the room was artistically unique in a pleasing way (room 5, with paintings of a flowering plant on the walls and ceiling throughout). The lower rating for comfort reflects the need to climb 3 20-step flights of winding wooden stairs to our room, and the lack of air circulation with the window shutters closed at night (it was cool when we were there, but this could be a problem in warmer weather). The room was very comfortable with the window and shutters open, and well laid out. The bathroom was modern and effectively functional. The hotel has a pleasant bar (they brew their own beer in the cellar; definitely worth a try) and two restaurants (one with a Michelin star). We ate at the other one and had an excellent meal (a bit expensive by our standards, but not by Swiss standards). Breakfast was very nice with a lot of options (included in our room fee). I would definitely recommend this hotel based on staff, location and services offered. You should be aware of the need to climb stairs and the air circulation issue (in our room, at least).

Good Choice!
We were there for one night but the friendly service, location and ambiance made the most of our time in Basel. The dinner we had in the hotel restaurant was outstanding.
