Nice hotel for the cost with a good location.
The Chelsea Savoy is a nice hotel. Not opulent but not bad either. The accommodations were about the size I would expect to see in a reasonably priced hotel in a place where there isn't a huge premium put on space like Texas or Mississippi which I believe makes it downright luxurious in downtown Manhattan. Also the bagels and muffins they had were the best free breakfast I have ever had at a hotel ever. They are both huge and delicious. Obviously fresh pastries provided at no additional charge every morning definitely was a huge plus. I actually looked forward to breakfast every morning. The only real downsides were that there was only one place to really set up a laptop so either me or my wife could use one at any given time in comfort and the street was so close to the building that you could hear all the noises of the city clear as day while trying to sleep. That said, we had no problem sleeping. I'm not sure if that is because we exhausted ourselves every day or that the noise just kinda blended in together after a while and we could ignore it. Also while the hotel had a mini fridge in each room, a microwave would have been a very welcome addition so we could easily heat up leftovers. The staff at the front desk were always very willing to answer stupid tourist questions and were very friendly. They even got us an extra blanket. Given the need to go back to Manhattan at some point, I would definitely consider going to the Chelsea Savoy again.

Great value....and loved the location
Overall, the stay was good. Upon arrival the lady behind the counter wasn't the friendliest. She wasn't necessarily rude, she just wasn't friendly. Things got better though. The other front staff I encountered were friendlier and helpful. We had to put in a request to fix the toilet twice, but they were super quick about getting it fixed. They held our luggage upon checkout, so we could explore more before our flight home later that afternoon. I had a small issue upon check in, which really bothered me. I made this reservation months in advance. The credit card I used to make the reservation had fraudulent activity, so was cancelled before this trip took place. I didn't remember to change the card on this reservation, because I was supposed to pay upon arrival and not be charged before. I called the night before, to confirm my reservation and let them know that I would be checking in late, as my flight didn't arrive until early the next morning. I started my reservation the night before so we could immediately check in and not wait until 3pm. My reservation got altered, because the card was declined when they tried charging it. It was rectified, but my flight was delayed and I just wanted to get up to my room and get cleaned up.....not have to deal with a reservation change. The room was bigger than the last one I had during my stay in Manhattan. Beds were relatively comfortable and room was old, but clean. I'd stay here again.

Good hotel in a great location
For the price ($300 Canadian a night in lower Manhattan I suppose is a bargain!), this place was ideal. The hotel is old, what once looked like a very nice bar is no longer used, the rooms are a little tired, but it was clean. The clerk who checked us in gave the impression of someone who hates his job, but others were friendly enough. The bathroom was clean. There was lots of hot water. There were more than enough electrical outlets. The Wi-Fi was excellent. Breakfast consisted of huge bagels and muffins (the bagels so large that there was no chance of squeezing them into that guillotine sort of device used to slice them in half) and coffee which came in a single pot which regularly ran out while guests waiting for somebody to refill. But the bagels were delicious! My partner hated the coffee because there was no cream, just milk. The AC in the room was a bit noisy, but very effective. Location was terrific---Times Square, Empire State Building, Broadway all good but not unreasonable walks away. There were not a lot of restaurants in the area, but we did like the Dallas BBQ and Malibu Diner. We made the mistake of going to Jake's Saloon right next door lured by a Happy Hour price and six dollar wine. We were charged $12 per glass, the waiter telling us we arrived too late. WHY DIDN'T HE REMOVE THE SIGN?

Clean, tidy and helpful.
The hotel is relatively cheap for New York standards and as such could probably do with a make over compared to the more expensive hotels. The hotel itself was clean and tidy but a little dated in fixtures and fittings. The breakfast provided was sufficient and there was enough for everyone however we did get there at 8am when it was first served. Our room was large with two doubles and space to open our cases as well as room for the kids to play. The TV was of a good size and there seemed a good variety of channels. The breakfast room also doubled as an eating room with a microwave to warm food you took to the hotel rather than eating in your room. The staff were extremely helpful in booking taxis and house keeping. The location itself was really handy. It was close enough to the main attractions of the Empire State Building and Times Square but far enough away to I would guess be a little quiter during the night. There were a variety of eateries around ranging from cafes and restaurants to pizza and Chinese takeaway. Overall a nice hotel which was cheap in comparison, tidy and helpful.

Family trip to NYC
We stayed for 5 nights at the Chelsea Savoy. I was a bit concerned when we arrived and both elevators were out of order, as my daughter was in a wheelchair due to recent knee surgery and unable to walk the stairs. Luckily, the situation was resolved quickly and the elevators were functioning for the rest of our stay. The room itself was nothing fancy, but clean. The size was sufficient for four females. My only real complaint with the room was the dim lighting. We happened to get a corner room, which was sort of an L shape, and the only window happened to be in a section in which any light from it did not help light the main living area of the room. It got quite frustrating getting ready with such poor lighting. We did notice other rooms in our hallway were much better lit since they had a window by the beds allowing outside light in. If you're looking for a view and something fancy, this is not the place for you. If you just need a place to sleep and get ready for outings that is clean and fairly roomy for NYC, this will do the job at a reasonable price. There were subway stations closeby that were very convenient to our activities and we really enjoyed Chelsea Market which was just a short walk away.
