Suites Santo Domingo, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

One of the best hotels I have stayed in. Rooms are suites with a bedroom, kitchen and sitting room. A low rise building set into the hillside, with decks and lawn on three levels. San Miguel de Allende is a pricier than average destination, but this hotel is quite reasonable compared to the average cost. Secure parking on the premises, close to the center of town. Hot water, woo-hoo! (It can be a rarity). I'm travelling with two dogs, so "pet-friendly" is the first term on my searches. There is a pet fee, also reasonable at 200 pesos per day per pet.

Good location and beautiful views. An authentic Mexican hotel with lots of tile and quirky touches, a kitchen that worked and friendly staff.

Definitely clean and with lots of charm I got to see 5 rooms since family stayed here too. All rooms are very unique and equally nice. They look just like the pics. However, because the property is older, we had issues. We never had hot water despite telling front desk 3 times. Did not see concern or effort to fix the hot water issues. Offered to change me to other room but that one also lacked hot water. Toilet didn’t want to flush, had to manually open lid to flush from inside tank. Felt like the olden days boiling water on stove to create a warm bath. I suppose that is part of the historic experience.

First of all, San Miguel de Allende is a beautiful city set on a hill. And Suites Santo Domingo is like our home during our recent visit. Our spacious accommodation came with a cosy en-suite bedroom, a fireplace, a small dining area and a kitchenette complete with a mid-sized fridge, microwave oven, coffee maker and a cooking stove complete with cook ware & eating utensils. Not that we needed to cook with the restaurants and shops all within walking distance. The walk to the shops and back to the hotel was manageable after which we are rewarded with a gorgeous view of the surroundings from the hotel verandah. Edwin and Luis at reception must be commended for their warm welcome, showing us our room amenities, giving suggestions on touring the city and arranging our taxi ride to the bus station. We are thankful for the strong wifi connection and a TV with a few English language channels. If we have to find fault, it will be the low water pressure for the shower.
