The Strand Inn was a great place to stay in Dunmore East. Sitting right on the beach, the property had a beautiful patio and dining area overlooking the water. The rooms weren’t very big but the bed was super comfortable and if you had a waterfront room than you were able to listen to the waves crash as you slept. We would definitely stay here again.

It’s raining and storming in Dunmore East so we decided to duck into Strand Inn for shelter. When we saw the fresh fish specials of the day, we decided to stay for dinner, too. We fell in love with the staff and decided we needed to stay the night!! It was the perfect decision. We had a lovely breakfast in the morning before we headed on our way. Highly recommended!!!

Our room was right above the beach. The room was smaller, a bit quirky ( in a good way), and the ocean dominated our view. The restaurant’s food and service were on par with the Michelin Star Cliff House restaurant in Ardmore where we ate the previous night. Dunmore East is a charming village and added to our pleasantly surprising experience. We slept soundly to the rthymn of waves lapping the beach. The staff was friendly and attentive, Rather than just a stopover to between two destinations, our night at the Strand Hotel stands out as one of our best stays in Ireland and when we return, it will be our primary destination.

I booked this for my wife who needed to stay in Dunmore East for a course so my comments come from her feedback. The hotel was serviceable for her purpose and the staff were friendly and helpful but would have been a disappointment if we had booked it as a holiday destination as a couple. The room (room 1) was small, with very little room around the bed although the bed itself was comfortable. There were only bedside tables, no drawers and only a narrow shelf over the radiator to put anything on. The one chair was a large armchair that blocked access to the bathroom. The bathroom appeared to be recently renewed to a decent standard but there were no shelves and nowhere to put anything except the floor. Although billed as a signature double with a sea view, there was barely a view of the sea and the small balcony/terrace area was immediately adjacent to a public terrace. This meant there there was no privacy unless one closed the room curtains. My wife also said that the walls are very thin and she could hear the TV in the neighbouring room when she was in her bathroom and also hear noise from the public area downstairs. This is not an expensive hotel so expectations have to be realistic, however, a few small improvements would lift the experience.
