Beautifully updated hotel in great location!
I was looking for a nice hotel walking distance to KC Power & Light and the River Market area. This hotel fits the bill - plus it's only a couple of blocks from the street car line! I was blown away by the recently renovated interior. Everything is clean and modern and there is even a bar off the lobby. There is also a coffee & water bar accessible all day and they have a breakfast buffet that was included in the price of my room. I had a king room that had an entire wall of floor to ceiling windows overlooking the River Market area. There was a comfortable chaise as well as a work area desk/chair. The closet had plenty of room and the bathroom was updated with a sliding barn door and lots of toiletry choices. The bed was very comfortable and the room seemed really large - maybe because of the high ceiling. The only thing I found strange was that there were no drawers to use for my clothes. I made use of the large closet and my suitcase, but you should be aware of this if you are planning an extended stay. For parking they only have valet, but the service was excellent and I appreciated not having to worry about parking downtown. The entire staff was friendly and accommodating and I was completely pleased with my experience. I will definitely plan to stay here again.

Great hotel if you have the dough!
Took the girlfriend to a ball game and we'd never experienced P&L so wanted to be within walking distance. I've never paid that much for a hotel but it was very nice. The site says $14 to park or $16 for valet. Did not really have an option to park on protected hotel property for $14. Instead, we parked in a garage behind the hotel for $5 on the honor system. Looked a little sketchy but nothing happened. Inside, everything was great. Very clean hotel, very friendly staff. Our room had no outdoor windows, which turned out to be convenient since we were out late and wanted to sleep late. Eleven in the morning may as well have been 11 at night as the room was so dark. Everything was very clean and working. The room was set at 68 when we arrived, which was quite nice as there was a heat index of 112 that day. Though we did not use the valet, he was very friendly in answering questions about the area and weather (severe weather in area that night). Unfortunately, we didn't make it up for breakfast which ends at 10 a.m. but that's our fault and we're okay with that. It would have been complimentary but we chose sleep. I would definitely stay here again...if I had that much money to spend all the time.

Dont expect to get what you reserve on hotels.com
I reserved a room here thru hotels.com, and they had diff options of rooms to choose from. I chose a room with a CITY view. I chose this room because it was a special trip with my daughter and i wanted her to see the city from our room. When i checked in, I asked “this is a city view room correct?” Yes but youre on the second floor so wont be real high- i said thats ok, not a huge deal. We get to the room, open the curtains and the view was OF THE INTERIOR HALLWAY. I immediately called the front desk, and said i specifically chose a city view For a reason. She said well u reserved thru expedia (I let that go but it was actually hotels.com) and they just find the cheapest rate and those are all interior rooms. Said they were completely booked and refused to change our room. They lied when i asked initially (or maybe just ignorant). Dont expect to get what u reserve! I will never stay there again. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. Nope nope nope.

The bar was closed!
Two friends and I drove down from Des Moines on July 25, 2017 for a fun night in Kansas City. We had tickets to Violent Femmes concert that evening. We planned our check-in time so we could take advantage of happy hour cocktails in the bar. As we picked up our room cards at the front desk, I asked where the bar was located. The clerk pointed toward the bar, but said it was closed. No bar! The clerk said they were working on getting it open again in a few weeks, and I got the impression Hampton had lost its liquor license. Booo! I never would have purposely booked a room at a hotel with no bar. My friends and I (thankfully) brought our own libations from Iowa. We even brought them downstairs when we returned from the show, and sat at the dark, deserted bar by ourselves. Not as fun as it should have been. Hampton fail. The room and the breakfast the next morning were fine.

A Weekend Trip for Football Game
I have never written a review of a hotel before but after my stay at Hampton Inn-Financial District, I felt like I had to. First, the room was extremely clean. I normally suffer from allergies in hotel rooms b/c of dust and the bedding. I had no allergies whatsoever. The bed was also very comfortable. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. We were even sung to at breakfast by a very exuberant staff person! The location was perfect. If you welcome walking, the City Market and the Power and Light District are all an easy walk from the hotel. Not only that, this hotel is one block from the free street car that takes you to many other popular locations. We were able to get around quite nicely using the streetcar and public transportation, even to the football game (though that required a bit of a walk because of closed streets). We really enjoyed our visit to Kansas City and can't say enough about the kindness of people we met, even as a fan of the opposing team in football! Thank you, KC and Hampton Inn!
