8/10 Very good

Hotel getting tired.
We have been using Hilton hotels for many years and we would use Hilton Queenstown at least every 6-12 months. Unfortunately this is the second time I've given a bad review. This hotel is in need of an upgrade on the interior. The carpet is worn and wrinkled in places and the beds are getting uncomfortable, which is most unusual for Hilton hotels as they pride themselves on having comfortable beds. The king bed had bad roll to the edges and the roller way bed had springs protruding. Both were in need of replacement. The location is superb. We have generally stayed here because of the spa, pub, restaurant and general store which have made it a very handy site. Unfortunately on this visit all were closed except the restaurant. Rather disappointing!!!! The rooms with a view are the best!!! Still a great hotel just needing a revamp and modernizing. Another thing that worry's me is the lack of security. Anyone can access this place very easily without the need of a card you can access the entire hotel except the pool. Compared to other hotels this needs attention to protect guests. You shouldn't be able to even move from one floor too another without a swipecard. But here you can enter the hotel from ext without any card at all.

8/10 Very good

Lovely property and a great trip on the ferry into Queenstown. Easy to get up to The Remarkables on the shuttle. Hard to get into the restaurant, especially as the Pub on site was closed too while we were there.

8/10 Very good

The setting is beautiful and, with the exception of the odd plane departure during the day, the location is quiet and sheltered from the prevailing winds up the lake. It has been 6 years since we last stayed and the property has started to show some wear. We did have an issue during our stay where the majority of the house keeping staff came down with covid so our room was not serviced for 4 days (we had a 2nd booking for 4 nights following this one). We are quite tidy so we made the best of it but at no point on any day were we told that the rooms would not be serviced and we found that we would have to ask at reception for the rubbish bins to be emptied and more toilet paper. With a couple of years experience with covid now I would expect better contingencies in place (extra toilet paper and towels, reduce service rounds e.g. emptying rubbish, etc.) These issues do change your experience with the hotel and not what you should expect if you are paying normal rates - we did get a discount because of the issues but only because we asked at check out..... All through our stays the staff repeated that it was not their normal service level (by and large the staff were good under the circumstances) and things were tough; I understand that ..... however more effort to update customer expectations and pricing to match reduced service without having to be asked would go a long way to keeping the experience at this hotel separated from an Air BnB.

4/10 Fair

Not such a great stay this time
Having staid at this hotel previously this trip was disappointing to the level that I may not stay there again despite the splendid location and vista. I know there are problems everywhere due to staff shortages but that does not fully excuse some of the poor experiences. Heating in the bathroom did not work at all during the stay and when an additional failure of the room heating occurred reception indicated a call back would occur, but never did happen. The room heating appeared to become responsive to the in-room control panel thankfully. The gas fireplace in our room did not operate on the final night of our stay. None of the common area gas fireplaces in the hotel were functioning during our stay, detracting from the expected winter experience ambience. On our second day several requests to have the room serviced ( long before the stated cut-off time of 4pm) were not actioned. Several items were excluded from room service restocking, cleaning was not thorough enough for a hotel of this price and standard. On a more positive note, our room was otherwise comfortable, generously proportioned and quiet. Hotel staff with whom we had face to face contact were very pleasant welcoming and helpful. The food was very good overall and the hotel location is truly delightful.
