Has potential but is let down by poor service
The hotel is well kept and is generally quite a decent business hotel around the 3.5 start category. Not a true 4 star as its proportions are quite small. The room is on the smaller side, the toilet is small and even the hotel grounds are quite small in general. The hotel however has a great rooftop terrace bar and generally has a lot of potential to be a good place but is let down by poor service, especially from reception staff. The staff are not very attentive, will take long to attend to you and generally can't be bothered about you. I don't know if its Dutch attitude but there was even a time where I was waiting to be attended by a guy receptionist and he just waived me off to say he was busy in a rude manner. Another time, the staff working the bar at the reception was making snide remarks, something that he should not in front of customer. Generally there is a lack of training and awareness among staff at the hotel. The Asian lady, who I believe was the supervisor was quite nice however and she personally attended my room to unlock the safe after it malfunctioned one day. All in all, I stay at more than 50 hotels a year for my job (and holidays) and this pretty much was my worst hotel experience. It wasn't terrible but it was my worst, simply because I have just generally stayed at much nicer places.

Exceptional
Comfortable, great price, good transport
I stayed in this hotel for 6 days, and really enjoyed the hotel staff, they couldn't have been nicer with one exception. The bartender in the restaurant, didn't catch his name but he's from Italy. At the 17th floor is a lovely bR restaurant, but the staff in general there almost ruined my experience, the bartenders were all cocky and acted haughty...Come on guys it's just a hotel bar. The service was extremely slow, it's hard to sit politely with an empty glass while the bartenders ignore you, and it wasn't just me, I saw many people get up from their table and come to the bar to ask to be served. The food is also is very limited choice but very tasty. This hotel is fair from other choices so they need to really make it a special spot with the Amazing view it enjoys, it just needs some better attitude! Breakfast is really great for 18 euros it's still worth it if you want a treat yourself. Front desk and housekeeping is tops. So warm and friendly. The shuttle driver was amazing, what a beautiful guy! Over all, I think it's a great value, good rooms, nice staff. Just tune up/fire half the bar staff and to got a winner!

Good
The first thing I'll say about this hotel is it is 3-4km from the centre of Amsterdam, despite the name. It's a taxi to the centre, which costs about €10. The receptionist advised Uber as cheapest, which was sound advice. Given there is some distance from anywhere nice to eat, the hotel takes full advantage by the prices in it's restaurant. €19.5 for a burger, which was not seasoned or tasty and dripped grease. Fries were an extra €6 on top. It's €7.5 for a beer. Portion sizes are small as advised by a waitress on a mission to sell sides to top up the portion. Good panoramic view from the lower enclosed area, the open roof was closed. On the day of arrival, the restaurant had been rented out to a private party. Alternative arrangements were made in the lobby, maybe 15 tables, for a hotel with 120 rooms. We arrived late, no reservation so no table. The party noise went on until the early hours with the bass travelling 5 floors down to our room. Room cleaning is strange. You have to ask for your room to be cleaned. Day 1 no hoovering or bin emptied, day 2 no bed made until asked reception, then hoovering done and towels changed. Historical dust in the room. There was a sock next to the bin from a previous room occupant. It was still there after our 4 day stay. Room 1206, wonder how long that sock will persist? Staff on reception were generally friendly except for the woman of African descent my wife dealt with about the cleaning. Modern hotel in good repair otherwise.

Exceptional
We had a 3 day break in Amsterdam, which was perfect in every way, helped by our fantastic experience in this hotel. When we arrived we were greeted by the exceptionally helpful ‘Joanna’ who had no issue whatsoever checking us in even though we were 5 hours earlier than we were due to. Not only this, but we were very surprised & pleased to be checked into the executive room as a free upgrade! Joanna’s help did not stop there as she helped advise us of the best attractions to visit and the transport links that would help get us there. Finally, as it was my girlfriends birthday, Joanna also kindly arranged for her to receive a free cocktail from the bar on the top floor!! Joanna could not do enough for us and we were very appreciative that she helped get our whole break off to a great start! The hotel itself is very classy, clean, tidy & all staff are friendly. There are 2 bars on the top two floors with one being an open air rooftop bar. We stayed on the week leading up to Xmas so they had a xmas market there, with a small ice rink for curling, making the stay very festive! We ate in the very cosy bar on the first night which played slow Xmas songs, candlelit, relaxed with fireplaces to sit by. The menu was admittedly limited but we went for a burger & chips which was exceptional! The location is good and only a 10 min tram ride to Dam square. We walked through the beautiful parks to get to the museum quarter which takes 45mins! Overall,5star experience of a beautiful city!

The hotel itself is done nicely as you walk in and the rooms are small but have what you need. Some areas need sorting, we had a fist shaped hole in the wall in our room (721) and the shower leaked water all across the bathroom floor. The service from most of the staff was poor to say the least. We put the “ service my Room” sign up as we had been out exploring and showered with the same towels 3 times already. They were soaking wet so we needed fresh ones. Our room did not get cleaned. I had to keep going down to reception To ask the receptionist about towels, I told her our room hadn’t been cleaned she said she would get the towels put in our room for our return! She didn’t bother! I then had to come down at 12pm midnight to ask again as we had been out and needed to wash Amsterdam off! He said he would get them to our room in 5 minutes. We waited until 1am for someone to knock on the door, again they didn’t bother. I had to go down to reception yet again in the morning without being able to have a wash or anything first. We did finally get them this time after complaining yet again to reception staff, who actually didn’t seem that bothered by my complaint. None of the call numbers on the phone or their welcome sheet work so you have no choice but to go to reception every time. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel if you like a good service from staff because you won’t get it. If that doesn’t bother you then it would be a good hotel to stay in.
