Great stay in the Red Light District
On booking, stupid me didn't realise we were pretty much in the Red Light District (!!). It's not on the actual streets though - just a short walk. Room clean but sloping ceilings as on the top floor; bit tight but cosy. Lots to see and do in ‘dam. If you're wanting to visit Anne Frank - book months in advance!!!! Hotel is a good walk from the 'I amsterdam' sign, but close to churches and pretty bridges. 5 minutes from central station ('station centraal' I think). The hotel is on a busy little street - nearly died a few times due to nearly being run over by copious motor bikes, bicycles, huge vans squeeezing through, random cars and such. Smell of weed everywhere - to be expected. Plenty of adult shops and lots of adult imagery EVERYWHERE. Offered drugs on the streets (closer to the red lights). Would never take children. Hotel is above a cheap pub (good deals) and also across the road - we were in T9 (across the road at the very top) - VERY steep stairs. Not for the faint hearted and knackering. You have to hand your key in on leaving for the day and show a card to get it back at the end. Staff nice enough. Shared bathroom (well, a shower box and separate toilet in another room) and sink in room too. The street is very busy but gets very quiet at around 12:30/1am (we had windows open) so not bad at all. Beds comfy but had to get twin room which was a shame so kept falling in between the beds haha! Didn't try the breakfast but is available for 7.50 euros.
