Very nice motel, close to town, some minor issues
I enjoyed my stay at Huka Falls Resort although I had some minor issues I'd like to touch on. My partner and I were in a studio room for 4 nights and were overall pleased with the room. The room was small however this was expected, and the room and bathroom were tidy and clean. We did notice that the bathroom fixtures (toilet paper holder & towel rail) were loose and needed to be screwed in properly. Bathroom also did not have very good ventilation and moisture gathered after showers and collected on the roof and was still there hours later despite having the window open. Studio was joined to another larger room which was occupied by someone else while we were staying there. This wasn't really a problem however we noticed that sound traveled very loudly through the walls (we could hear the person next to us talking on the phone and walking around) and we felt we had to whisper when in the room which was quite inconvenient. I believe that if an establishment plans to have people staying right beside each other in the same "villa" (even if they are in separate rooms) the walls MUST be sound-proofed! Kitchen area was lacking a sink and rubbish bin, was a tiny bin in bathroom but not adequate for general rubbish and had nothing to wash plates/glasses with so avoided using any of the kitchenware. Also couldn't see TV when lying down in bed due to placement. Pros were the close proximity to town centre, scenic lookout and Huka Falls. Happy with daily servicing, would recommend.

    Bad luck comes in threes.....
This is the second time we have stayed at this location. I would have given it a much higher rating if it wasnt for the following: 1) - The bathroom basin was blocked . When I reported this I was told by the friendly duty manager that she had looked all over and couldnt find a plunger and that the maintenance man had the day off. She did promise that it would be looked at the next day sometime however we were only there for the night. This is shocking to me, what happened if there was another more serious maintenance issue like a broken fridge or shorting wires etc.. 2) - WIFI not working - all rooms have wifi apparently except ours??? Apparently there was a wifi issue and a replacement router was expected to be installed the next day... no good for us however 3) After a hot and sweaty day exploring the thermal wonders of Taupo we were looking forward to cooling off in the pool BUT was informed by the office that the pool was undergoing shock chemical treatment and would not be usable for the next day or two... WHAT? I would give this place a lucky 3rd try though as it is great place to stay for a few days.

quiet resort a few kms from town
2 bed villa. Plenty of room for family. Kitchen was very basic though difficult to cook properly in as no oven and lacking proper utensils to cook with. But fine for basics. Lacking some electric plugs couldnt have more than one thing plugged in at a time in kitchen. Tiny rubbish bin for family of four. Light didnt work in bathroom. Nice deck but no furniture to sit out on it. Could do washing but no where to hang it - just supposed to use dryer I guess but not very eco friendly. Room was serviced daily but not sure why they bothered they just changed towels and made one of the beds (never made the kids beds). I had to go ask for more toilet paper as they never replaced and one roll for 4 days isnt enough for 4 people. Swimming pool was a bit green and murky not quite like the photos. And we didnt realise the cafe is only open for private bookings not all the time - think some of the website etc needs upgrading as is misleading. So a few things could be improved but generally fine and quiet (except when obviously a wedding was on and guests arrived home at 12am..).

    Little things let it down.
Had an issue with one of the bedside lamps having a blown bulb. No overhead light so you really do need both of the bedside lamps working to be able to read at all. Went to ring reception but the phone was dead. We were a fair way from reception to walk there but that was okay. Was given two different type of bulbs to try. Put the screw type one in and it blew immediately. On checking noticed the maximum you could put in there was 60watts and we had been given 75 watts. So back to reception. The lady looked for well over 10 minutes to try and find a bulb but couldn't. She then offered us to move rooms but as it was 10 past 8 by then and we had had a long day, declined the offer. We had just wanted to go to bed and read a book but couldn't do that unfortunately. The receptionist had no idea why the phone wasn't working. Disappointed overall.

    Quality hotel in Taupo
I’ve stayed in many motels in Taupo. This has been the nicest. There are some small stains on their carpets... but the rooms are lovely. The 2 bedroom suite gave us a building to ourself. When in a double studio we shared a building with another room and could hear them on the other side of the wall. The room itself it lovely. The kitchen was clean. The bathroom seemed clean and extra toilet paper was given (and needed). Although the soap was extremely small for a shower and no shower gel was there for an option. All-in-all best of the motels ive stayed in in Taupo. Location is not downtown though.
