Safe, clean but the Hotel is just a little tired.
It was a strange location but at the same time very handy. Just be aware that returning later in the evening can be a bit disconcerting with all the touts and 'bouncers' on street duty but never felt unsafe at any time. An interesting little area.

Great location for easy access to Narita
Hotel was really quiet and we slept great. Location was excellent for train station, but neighborhood was a bit seedy compared to other parts of Tokyo. We had a really cool room although it was a bit larger than we needed (we were 3 and it slept 10!)

Beware in Booking with Hotels.com
Beware in booking with Hotels.com.,some sort of scam. I booked for Centurion Hotel Ueno Japan last February 16 ,2018 with a room I supposed my family of 6 will be accommodated as it was stated in the website that the room I chose can occupy 5 adults and 3 children and it cost Y29,872 or roughly P15,000 even with Secret Price of 50% off promo for two nights stay. However, when I got there, front desk personnel told me that my booking was good only for two adults and I was obliged to get new rooms( 2 twin rooms) with additional charges of Y58,000. it was hard to discuss with them and I knew that a refund that moment will be a doubtful move aside from unsuccessful reimbursement but also the non-availability of hotels nearby.

Place is clean and with many restos and shops around. The room though is a bit small.

Pricey but great location
I made a mistake when booked this hotel. I put 3 person, instead of 4 person that stayed in one room with queen bed and one single sofa bed They charged me 10,800 yen for 1 person for 2 nights. For me, that was quite pricey. I made the same mistake at the other hotel (it was one of Marriott’s chain in Osaka) and they didn’t charge me that high. Maybe it’s because in Tokyo? They even didn’t give me the receipt. The room is so so small. It was hard to put 2 luggages in the room. I smelled ciggarette smoke when entering the room. But the plus side is the location quite great. Near train station and surround by local food.
