Only if you are on your last nickel!
When I made the reservation, I requested a 1st floor room close to the exit because I have some physical challenges and have a hard time with stairs and walking. The first floor was actually second floor. I can handle a few easy stairs but this stairway was long and very steep. I took one look and knew I couldn't do it. I explained to the desk clerk and said I would have to stay elsewhere. She argued with me stating that they had filled my request for a first floor room. That was true if you consider second floor the first floor. I had 2 large pieces of luggage. I looked out the door and there was a Howard Johnson just across the street. At this point cost didn't matter, I just needed to dump those bags and get off my legs. I asked if I could please leave one of my bags for a just a few minutes while I took the other to HoJo's. She said absolutely not and continued to berate me. So I went out on the street with both bags and was shuttling them a few feet one at a time. She followed me out the door and kept hassling me about the reservation. I told her for the 3rd time that I would contact Hotels.com when I got home and work it out with them. A kind young man noticed my difficulty and took my bags right up to the elevator at Howard Johnson's.I later received an email from the manager stating that I would be charged for the night. I was charged $102 for the cancellation.

GREAT PLACE TO STAY ON A BUDGET.
The Ambassador is NOT a five star hotel...it is honest to goodness cheap travel hotel. All rooms share a common bathroom (private single) and a shower (private single large shower with a toilet and sink and mirror in the room). The toilets and shower were immaculately kept clean. Every room has their own desk, chair, tv with cable, mii fridge and ceiling fan. The hotel has no air-conditioning but not really needed in Vancouver. We stayed throughout the week and heard nothing from other guests. On the second floor there is a common kitchen and mini dining room. There are toasters and microwaves, full on oven and huge fridge for common use. Tons of dishes and plates and glassware too. The beds were comfy and clean. They normally only do room service every other day if you are staying longer than one night...but environmentally - that's fine by me. The neighbourhood might seem sketchy but it isn't. This hotel is like living the university dorm life all over again - but cleaner and your 'floor mates' are generally respectful and quiet. We didn't have a car but I don't think there is parking. Front desk staff is awesome...24 hours a day. After ten pm NO GUESTS other than registered guests are allowed in the hotel. After that point, when you return, the front doors are locked. The desk person will let you in and then with photo ID you are then allowed up to your rooms.

A very very poor place!
This is a very poor place. The show room has even no shampoo. When you ask for it, they told you that you will have to buy it from 7-11. The room they offer me is right next to a very noisy vending machine. When I ask to change the room, they ask for additional fee (~$30). Whatever service you ask for will be requested for additional fee.
