'MY STORY' will make you happy in Lisbon...but...
'MY STORY' OURO will make you happy in Lisbon…but… This is a perfect little 'home' in the heart of Lisbon. The location of the hotel is fantastic. All public transport and the river are under five minutes walk and you even have a view of the river from your balcony if your room is on the main road and at upper floors. Most of the reviews say that the rooms are small - yes, they are…But the perfect design makes you forget about the size, especially if you are travelling alone. The room and the comfortable bathroom with high quality towels were extra clean, the bed was very comfortable. The windows had double glazing and the shutters didn't allow the slightest noise from outside. The reception staff was very friendly and helpful, taking care of you as if you're a member of family. The restaurant merits a visit at least for the special whole octopus with cabbage. The only bad surprise was the over- priced taxi to the airport. Many websites and guide books on Lisbon say that the journey is around 10 Euros and I had paid this amount the day I arrived. The night before my departure I asked the reception to reserve a taxi and at the airport, I was asked to pay 18 Euros…. Almost double the usual price. The driver said it was because this was a private taxi company for the clients' comfort! But the reception hadn' t asked my consent for ordering a private and much more expensive taxi! So, be aware...

Cozy hotel In the center of everything!
A lovely hotel right in the center of everything. Small lobby with a nice cozy atmosphere. We were given a free glass of wine which was a nice touch. The room was much smaller than I expected, but the ceilings were really high, so if felt bigger. The bed was smallish, but comfortable. My only real complaint about the room was the design of the shower. It was very small and the door opened into the shower, so it was hard to get in and out of. The showerhead would only adjust height but not angle. So it would shoot me straight in the face or not at all. You had to remove it and use it like a wand. The water was scalding hot and hard to find the cooler setting. I couldn't find a way to turn on the vent on the bathroom. I will never understand why designers don't try and use a mock up of their design before putting them in all of the rooms. Simply having the door open outward and having a different showerhead would make such a difference. It's a small but annoying thing. The area was great, there was a bakery next door. There were countless restaurants all around. A good amount of attractions were in easy walking distance. We took a private tour of Sintra and a second tour of three cathedrals. I would highly recommend this. We used Magik tours from Trip advisor. Our guide Roy was great. All in all a very nice stay. Fyi, you have to pay 1 euro per person on checkout. Also, there was no parking that I could see.
