The room itself was very clean and comfortable. Only stayed for two nights. Checked in late afternoon & not familiar with the area also now dark, I wanted to call a taxi from my room to go into town for dinner and drinks. I did not want to use my international Mobile phone due to roaming charges. All hotels/motels usually have in-room phones as a service amenity. I left my room to go to reception and politely waited for the man at the desk to finish his phone call that he was on. He eventually asked what it is I needed, phone still in hand, I now realise that I am interrupting his call as he was speaking Hindu and is being short with me. I quickly asked how I can call a taxi into town as there are no phones in the room. He replies to me to use my mobile phone, nobody uses in-room phones at hotels anymore. I explained my circumstance to him. He now asks me to wait 5 or so minutes and then I can use the phone he is using. I left telling him that his service is very bad and rude. As a guest I expect to be helped immediately as I am not familiar with the area and needed a little assistance. Next night the township air raid horn sounds at around 10pm. Keep in mind the motel is based at the foot of an active volcano. No evacuation information/procedure in room. No phone in room to ask reception if everything is ok and what we need to do. I again leave my room to walk back to the desk to find it unattended with a back in 5 mins sign. They clearly do not care about service.

A bit expensive
I thought the room rate of $196 a bit on the expensive side. The ceiling in the bathroom needed cleaning. The shower was great but being over the bath I got water all over the floor as the spray was so powerful. (That would have been great after a day of skiing on the aching muscles.) Just care would be needed on stepping out of the shower to ensure you didn't slip. So overall, room just starting to get a little tired but nice enough but not, in my view good value at $196 per night at this time of the year as the skiing season nearly over.

Exceptional 10.0
The Peaks is located halfway between the train station and the commercial area of Ohakune, and right on one of the main streets into town It's about half a km walk either direction, with a nice walking path that follows a stream. This is a family run property, and our hosts were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. The exterior of the property is well kept and very appealing with a nice "mountain" look. The room was very clean, bed was comfortable, and there was plenty of hot water. The hosts offer shuttle service for train or bus pick up and Dempsey's shuttle service to Tongariro stops right at the property. Highly recommend the Peaks for any type of stay in the national park area!

One night in Okahune
This place was great. It was like a home away from home. After driving from Rotorua down to Wellington, we made a stop here. Didnt realise how close we were to the snow mountain ! Was a great view first thing in the morning ! We arrived at about 7pm and the reception lady said she had already turned the heater on for us and the electric blankets - which was great ! because it was quite cold! I got extra milk. My toddler broke a bowl and the manager the next morning said its ok because things break! How nice is that ! The shower pressure was abit bleh but overall stay was great

Good 6.0
Good Motel
The motel was good, we loved the spa bath, that was a bonus. Good location close to the mountain and the check in check out was swift. The owner had heated the room for us before we arrived which was also good. The only two bad point was the bed was very soft. If they had a better qualify mattress it would of got top marks. The oven and all the shelves were lined with tin foil presumably to avoid making a mess in the oven , but this made cooking times slow and it took us over an hour to heat up a lasagne.
