Not good if is weather bad with teenagers!!
The weather when we arrived was windy and wet so this review is based on having to spend a great deal of time in the room. We are a family with teenage kids and had booked for 3 nights. Firstly, like a great number of other motels in NZ, they say the room is for four adults. It’s for 2 but they shove another bed in the bedroom, so no room for bedside cabinet and hardly any room to move around the beds. Other bed is shoved in the living area. So not comfy watching TV.Kitchenette was pretty badly stocked. Internet policy was the worst on our trip. We were given vouchers for 1GB with a code. That may sound a lot but when you have teenage kids stuck indoors watching YouTube then that doesn’t last long. If you went out and came back you had to put the code in again. Very annoying and one of the owners told our kids that we would have to pay for the internet as they used too much. Says they have Sky TV. Total of 9 channels which included about 4 Sky ones. No news channel and no Australian Open Tennis. Most places we stay on our trip has 50+ TV/Sky channels. Anyway, the weather forecast was not good for the remainder of our stay so we left after one night. We felt disappointed, as the rooms were not cheap, and the motto we had when we left was “Every expense spared” with this place!!!

Lovely Paihia hotel
Lovely hotel for our family of four, had everything we needed and located a short stroll away from shops, restaurants and ferry to Rusell. Very pretty seaside town in the Bay of Islands and Outrigger is a fantastic place to stay when exploring the area. There was a change of management when we arrived but this did not disrupt our stay, both managers were very helpful and provided lots of information about the area. We really enjoyed our stay.

Friendly and inexpensive
Only stayed here for the one night, wasn't expecting all the amenities that were provided in the room, which were a pleasant surprise. The owner was very helpful. As is typical with most budget motels/hotels in New Zealand there was no central heating but the owner had thoughtfully turned on the heater so the room was warm when we arrived. Very clean and close to the eateries available nearby. Highly recommend.

Exceptional 10.0
My friends and I stayed at the outrigger for three nights and were very happy with our stay. Our room was very clean and spacious and in a great location close to everything, within a few minutes walk. The owner was lovely and was more than willing to help to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. I highly recommend this place and would definitely stay here again.
