Friendly, homely, excellent value and location
We stayed at Avondale Guest House for two nights in August. Our host Carole greeted us when we arrived and quickly made us feel welcome. Both Carole and Wendy went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. It was like a home-from-home. We were in a top-floor room - a lot of stairs to get there, but well worth the effort. It was a good-sized room with a double and a single bed, so perfect for myself and my two young children. The beds were comfortable, and the quiet at night ensured a good night's sleep. The bathroom was very new looking, very clean and spacious. The attic windows looked out across the rooftops of York towards Rowntree Park. The home-cooked breakfast was superb and we were able to select from a wide variety breakfast options. The whiskey porridge is a must-try item - delicious - best porridge I have ever tasted. It set me up for the day. The location is excellent - within walking distance of York’s main attractions - and it has free-parking - something hard to get with accommodation within the centre of York. On future trips to York, this will be the place I will always want to stay :-)

Conveniennt location, clean & comfortable B&B
Carole is a such an organized, friendly and thoughtful host. One can tell from every single detail of her B&B. Breakfast is delicious & generous. If possible, go for the roof unit "Rose" which has 1 single & 1 double bed, and a bright, clean & spacious bathroom with a roof window. Its location is very convenient, close to city centre, 1 min walk to supermarket, fruit stall, bakery & shops.

Top-notch Guest House
Carole offers warm hospitality in an elegantly-decorated setting. Breakfast (I had 3) was delicious and fed me for most of the day. The location is convenient and in a friendly neighborhood with great coffee shops and restaurants, with the bus just outside the gate. (I had a nice walk from the Minster.) Good bed, upscale toiletries, snazzy decor, good bang for the proverbial buck. Worth an eager return!

Absolutely Amazing!
Wonderful location just outside city centre in a bustling part of York. Carole is a fantastic host who will give you great insider information on where to go - whole folder on recommendations in your room too! One of the nicest breakfasts we've had with so much choice! Really welcoming! 15minute walk to all the attractions in the centre - go across the old wall for the best views. Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends!
