Exceptional 10.0
First-rate backpacker accommodation. We had a room with a double and a single bed and ensuite, quite old but very clean and in good condition, and very spacious. Beds were very comfortable. The room was at the far end of the complex and wi-fi could be a bit patchy but was acceptable. Though we were right by the road there was little traffic noise. Kitchen facilities were excellent, and the real highlight was the free chocolate pudding and ice cream provided at 8pm each evening - a really nice touch. So was the free breakfast (cereals and toast) in the morning. We stayed at the start and end of our South Island trip and would definitely stay there again.

great place to stay with a lot perks
Great owner, super friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is great and the kitchen is really big. Don’t forget to catch the amazing chocolate pudding, every night at 08:00pm, it’s super delicious and it’s free. They have also a hot pool just write your name and the time you want to relax. Great service, highly recommended

Good 6.0
Functional but pretty much like a doc hut only with electric appliances. Bedding was minimal in quality and many people in a small place.

Pay $50 more and get a motel!
It was a quick overnight stay, but unless you are quite familiar with the Backpacking Culture you will definitely feel like an outsider.

1 night stopover in Picton
This place is really great for a short stop for budget conscious travellers. Service was very personal and friendly and the pudding was an added bonus (although we were expecting breakfast which didn't seem to appear...). Very quiet and calm little place, less backpackers-y and more of a budget lodge for people wanting somewhere nice and quiet to sleep. A short walk into the town centre as well.
