Nice place - manager a bit off
I had rung the manager to say we had a high chance of arriving after the 9:00 pm office closure, but unsure due to cyclone damaging bridge on way there - might not get thru etc. He said no problem, he would leave the door unlocked and the key inside. When we got there it happened to be just after 9 pm - being after office closure, we parked up and went straight to the room - door was locked. A few minutes later the manager appeared. His first words were not "welcome" or "how was the trip" or "glad you were able to get through from your damaged city". Instead it was "you said you were coming at 10:30 pm". I had said no such thing but he wasn't worth the argument. How rude not ask how we were after our trauma back in Napier, but instead focus on the time he thought we had said we would arrive - I had said I didn't know, that it could be late. To me, if we were arriving any time after 9 pm, it did not really matter - the door would be open. But no, it wasn't. How was I to know he wouldn't leave the door open till exactly 10:30 pm. The room was nice and spacious, the kitchen well laid out, the bathroom a nice size with all we needed, plus extra towels. The 2 bedrooms (we had the apartment suite) were great (couple and a single). The lounge was good but the couches uncomfortable. The worst was the bed - I woke up with a sore neck and bones. Would stay again if they had a different manager/owner.
