6/10 Good

Pros: Beautiful house full of antiques. High quality shampoo and conditioner. Very clean. Bed is comfortable. A couple of nice restaurants within walking distance. Keurig coffee machines on each floor. Cons: Most rooms are on upper floors, perhaps even four flights of stairs up. Our small room did not have a window you could open, just an A/C (the use of which was discouraged). Nice linens (but don’t eat in the room as you might make them smell). Breakfast is continental only. Yogurt and a bit of granola and berries (not too much!), coffee/tea, and a fresh croissant. Seated around a beautifully laid table and served by the Scotsman in his kilt. I felt more uncomfortable here than I have every felt due to the crotchety manner of the owner. I’m not usually hard to please and can get along with most, but he was very brusque and unwelcoming in his manner. Maybe he was having a stressful time, as I am sure he can be fun and interesting when he wants to be. He was certainly stressed about Covid protocols. Or perhaps he just took a disliking to me because I wanted to use the fridge and microwave. I won’t detail the five unpleasant interactions I had, nor the three my husband had. My husband found his manner awkwardly amusing. Cathy was friendly enough, but we would not return, nor recommend.

Our hosts were 1st class. The room was impeccable. Sandy is a passionate host with great travel tips for the surrounding areas to visit in the Northumberland region of Nova Scotia.

8/10 Very good

C un endroit très spécial. Très bien tenu et rempli d'antiquités. Bien situé dans le village, des restaurants à quelques pas. Sandy est un hôte très cordial et plein d'énergie, un guide touristique hors pair. Merci

An Experience—not just a Place to Stay
Very friendly and welcoming. Obviously liked people and provided opportunities for fellow guest to interact if they chose to do so. Helpful in providing information about the area. An old building one with history and character, much like the hosts. Great stay—comfortable, clean, and fun.

Would recommend!
Sandy (owner) was extremely cordial and helpful. Recommended places to eat. Bedroom had a comfortable bed with nice linens and towels. We had the king bedroom with a private bathroom. Breakfast was in a beautiful dining room and Sandy served us wearing a kilt. Lots of stairs though so if you can’t haul your suitcases up a couple of flights it would be difficult to stay here.

10/10 Exceptional

From the time we pulled up till we left it was the best stay we have ahead at a hotel in a long time. Owners Sandy and Cathy were fantastic. They treated us like royalty. The Inn is so historical and fantastic place to visit. WE will be going back again in October and stay longer. The rating system is out of 5, it should be 10 plus. WE overall felt like family.
