A cute little place to stay.
A lovely little resort, just what i needed for a quick stay, although you could get comfy with a cafe now on site. Lovely Host welcoming us in. It has been done up since i stayed there last, love the Thermal spa was just what i needed after a week of skiing. You can hear the cars from the main road, but didn't bother us too much. Wifi wasn't that strong, which frustrated our 2 teenagers, and it didn't have Sky TV, which annoyed my Husband hehe.

Pleasant surprise
Came down for a golf weekend. Left booking very late so had to quickly book as accommodation was being snatched up. Normally check reviews but this time, we didn't. Quick look at the room on the website was sufficient so booked it. Could not fault anything however, other than being directly outside laundry and basically five steps to reception as we were in room 2, we had to close our curtain to gain privacy when we were in the room. Studio room was otherwise lovely, big enough for 2. Clean and spacious. The surprise was the thermal bath outside our room. Indeed, well received after long golf walks. Staff approachable and friendly. Room only had a fan, no air condition unit however, fortunately it catered for our needs. A dishwasher, what a plus !!! Hmm! dining table did not cater for food/coffee cup stains and no cleaner would remove so had to mention the stains and soon after cup mats were provided. Suggest do not stay in rooms 1 or 2 as either directly outside reception or the laundry, however, despite the closeness, we did not get disturbed with noise. 5 mins from the lake. Not directly in front of the lake. 15 minute walk into Taupo town. A must to go to the left and head towards 2 mile boat cafe. This will suit many that don't want to be caught up with the crowd in Taupo. Coastal walks leading up to 5 mile bay a must to do. Playgrounds and many, many quiet lovely spots along the way for families to enjoy without the crowds

Expensive 2 night stay
After reading great reviews I was looking forward to staying at the Phoenix, However it wasn't the 'resort' stay I expected. I was disappointed in the room rate for what we received as we were excited about the 'mini golf' on site and mineral spa pool in room and both were far less quality than expected. The front desk check in was not very good, she was more concerned with giving us a complimentary blueberry juice and showing us the puzzle/game cupboard rather than letting us settle in. The Free wifi would have been good, except there was none in Room 1.. and we were told it was better in the 'garden' . There was little information about the mineral pool and the pool had lots of orange 'rust' mineral residue which I was hesitate about jumping in. The Bed was unfortunately extremely hard and pillows flat. The one part which I was highly disappointed and concerned about was that the front desk took payment from my card (supplied via expedia) without my permission, as the booking was made with no pre payment needed. I did not have the allocated credit required and she still processed it, the day we arrived, and did not tell us, or give us a receipt. On departure she said 'oh sorry' I took it off the card when you arrived and that we were 'in a bit of a rush' so didnt tell us. Really terrible excuse.

2 Nights Away
It was overall a great 2 night getaway. It was close to the Center of town, close enough to walk, which we did. The staff were friendly, the place was clean and tidy, the only issue I had was the spa area was full of cobwebs and spiders were crawling everywhere, and there were a few flies that we couldn't get rid of. I also would have preferred a room at the back as we we right in the front - no.1 - and road traffic was loud.

Very good 8.0
We stayed for 2 nights in a spacious and comfy apartment. It was good for us with a complementary laundry and easy access. On arrival we were offered some honey and ginger tea which was a nice touch after a long day's drive. The bed was very comfortable and we felt relaxed. Great for self catering holiday in a most interesting part of the North Island.
