Not sure why this hostel has such racing reviews. The doorway is constantly blocked by people using it as their smoking step. The kitchen is full and not the cleanest. If you are on the top bunk by the air con, it’s inch thick with dust. If the dorm is full, then there is no floor space because of everyone’s belongings. General run down feel of the building inc carpets. The showers are nice and hot. Wouldn’t stay there again.

Fantastic stay once again at Mad Monkey in Chippendale! Booked again because of the amazing staff, namely Sohan and Jake, and was welcomed back as if I were family. Would highly recommend to any backpackers out there, 10/10!

as soon as you walk in it smelled like a toilet and sewer had exploded. you couldn’t take a breath in until we got to our room after the manager on the day shift had left and the new manager came it smelled perfect. it’s like the first manager didn’t even care. i had high hopes but will not be returning
