10/10 Exceptional

This is a unique specialty Inn. The room was clean. The staff was great. The location could not be any better to anything there. Parking off street. Next to the river for walking. I booked it again before I left. I just traveled 2500 miles and it was overall the best we stayed in.

8/10 Very good

The Inn is lovely and in a perfect location. There are many restaurants, the river and events nearby. The staff was very friendly and the bar was enjoyable. Our room (102) was on the main floor near the reception desk. It was loud. Also, the small heater could not effectively heat the room. I would stay there again however maybe in a different room.

6/10 Good

Strange room design ruins a nice building.
It pains me to have to leave a poor review of this hotel, but after staying here a couple of times, I think someone ought to leave a realistic review of this place. We first stayed at The 1857 a couple of years ago. We remember liking the lobby and public spaces in the hotel, but our room design was downright bizzare. The room featured a huge, open-air shower that shares the public space of the room. That's right, if you want to watch your partner shower while you sit on the bed and drink your coffee, this place is for you. I love my wife, but I don't need to watch her shower in the open air of a small hotel room. It comes off as one of the strangest design choices I've ever seen in a hotel room. Two years later, we decided to give it another try, because our regular hotel was completely booked. This time, we made sure to book a room that boasted a private shower. The first room we were given was on the first floor. As we entered the room, there is a small living room that was very dark, with no overhead lighting. Directly adjacent to the living room is a strangely large tiled shower room, with no door. The porous tiles we still wet from being cleaned from the previous guest, which gave it a wet and musty feel. You have to walk across the room to the rest of the bathroom to finish any other business. What's with the obsession with giant unusable showers here? We were moved to a different room, again strange, with a ridiculous bathroom and the smallest sink ever!
Bizzare, tiny sink with no room for anything.
Huge shower. Useless bathroom.
Open-air bathroom! Just what everyone hopes for in a room.
A sink so small you wash one hand at a time.
