If you plan to reserve your accommodation in Reykjavik for your Iceland sightseeing or adventure trip, I highly recommend 4th floor hotel. The location is the best in heart of Reykjavik. Just walk for few minutes to public bus terminal "Hlemmur" and tourist bus stop no. 10 : Hlemmur for Flybus airport or tourist shuttle pick up and drop off is located at the corner of hotel building - Very convenient. We book standard triple room which includes private shower and toilet in our room. From Hlemmur bus terminal, you can go to anywhere in Reykjavik or travel to other regions of Iceland. Our room is very clean. You will also have partial fantastic ocean view from your room. Breakfast buffet is very good which includes low fat milk, healthy breads and cereals, ham, salami, sausage, fruits - These are standard hotel's breakfast buffet in Iceland. You may not need to book your room with private shower and toilet because room with private toilet and shower is much little expensive. They also have room with shared shower and toilet that is quite cheaper. On that floor, there are at least 3 clean toilets and showers which is quite enough or you can use public toilet at breakfast area in hotel but it's little dirty. Before we stay here, we read many reviews from many websites and we are very concern about many negative reviews of this hotel. However, after we stay here for 4 nights, we are very impressed everything here. We think that here is one of the best hotel in Reykjavik!

Good location & budget option, dodgy bathrooms
I stayed one night at the 4th Floor Hotel in Reykjavik. While I didnt stay long, I can say there was a number of good and bad points: Good: - Really good location. Close to the sea/Reykjavik bay and very close to the shopping street. Also there is an Airport Bus stop just outside which is really convenient! - The price you pay for this hotel is a real bonus (even considering the bad points). The cost of everything in Reykjavik is so high! - Free breakfast. Quite a good free breakfast thats available from 7am-10am. Bad: -The bedrooms are basic and the heating/air con is very loud! The walls between each room are very thin - you can hear everything. - The Wifi is unusable in some parts of the hotel (I stayed in a room on the ground floor and could not connect at all within the room). - If you get a room with a shared bathroom, beware: the toilet and shower are in the same room so if someone is using one of the two, no one else can! From what I could tell, 4 or 5 rooms have access to one shower and one toilet. Overall, I would recommend the hotel if you are on a budget and just need somewhere to crash. But if you want any real comfort (or reliable wifi), I would weigh up the options.

Very good 8.0
First, the breakfast for all guests is terrific: eggs, bacon, sausage, french toast with maple syrup, fruit, cold cuts/cheese, breads. croissants, cereals, yogurt. Really good. As for rooms, this hotel is schizophrenic. I first stayed two nights in a solo room on the new or newly refurbished 2nd Floor. The room was fabulous: modern, indirect lighting, flat screen TV, nice private bath and shower, large closet and many hangers, comfortable clean bedding and mattress...really great and fairly priced for what was delivered (particularly with breakfast). Then when I held over for a third night I had to move to the original 4th Floor and a room with shared bath. The bed and bedding were the same, breakfast was included (a plus), and the room was clean; but otherwise the room was tired, beat up and in great need of refurbishment (13 inch tube TV, furniture finish was beat-up, small closet with only 1 hanger) - not impressive and nothing like the beautiful 2nd Floor rooms. Only good thing was $20 less in price, but would have gladly paid more for the better 2nd Floor room. So the lesson here is try to get the new 2nd Floor rooms with bath; or else make sure to get a reduced price and lower your expectations for the 4th Floor rooms. Either way, breakfast is great.

Clean, with very limited parking
The rooms were clean and well-maintained. The first room we were given was an interior room with no windows, and there was a plug-in fan on a table to help cool the room off. It felt like it was over 80F, and the fan wasn’t making enough of a difference. This was on a day when the temperature outside was 54F, not a hot summer day by any means. Since there were no windows to pop open and the heat was unbearable, we asked for a new room and paid an additional fee of $50 to upgrade for our one-night stay. The new room faced the street, had windows that could be opened AND it had a toilet and shower in the same room, which the first room did NOT. (I didn’t realize the shared bath was part of the first booking, and if I had, I wouldn’t have booked it—buyer beware if a private bath matters to you.) The other aspect of this property that people may care to know is that when it says limited parking in the description, it means very limited, as in maybe 3–4 spaces in the garage under the building. The alternative is to park on the street, which we did, about a block away. Street parking was free after 6 pm.

Fair 4.0
The water had a strong sulfur odor that I had only encountered once before in Iceland in Reykjalid at Lake Myvatn. Whatever system they used for the water made a god-awful noise every few seconds while taking a shower and each time I used the sink or flushed the toilet. The hallway had an odor -- probably from the smell of the water. Parking was limited and tedious. I had to pull up to the garage door then get out of the car, run up to the lobby, then down a flight of stairs into the garage to press the garage door opener, then get back into the car and enter the garage. Breakfast was fine. The location was good. Though I paid for three nights (non-refundable), I only stayed one night and found another hotel a couple of blocks further from city center. It's fine if you're on a budget, but I wanted something a little better for this trip to Iceland.
