Loved the old world charm authenticity and all the extra bits of old time placed all around the house. Our bed was very uncomfortable and some things around the house were very dirty

A beautiful old building with plenty of character. Decore was in keeping with the style of building. Too close to railway line with trains running regularly and noisy

We felt very welcomed by Jimmy when we arrived and was given a very thorough tour of the accommodation. The bed was very comfortable and the house was beautiful!

The property and the Albert room we stayed in was/is historic and beautiful, however there were some fundamental problems written about in other reviews, mainly the lack of access to water other than in the bathroom, the lack of air conditioning (a problem due to the high temperatures experienced the day and night of our stay), WiFi access only in common areas (not our room), the lack of air flow through building due to the verandah being closed off and inaccessible to guests and the breakfast failing to meet even the low standards we expected given the very affordable price charged (see other reviews). I have lived in and worked on historic buildings and understand the energy and investment required to maintain and restore. We chose this accommodation because of it's age and were prepared to accept compromise in standards. However, despite Jimmy's availability and effort to cool the room using a portable cooler, staying on a hot summer's night is not recommended. The Albert room is at the rear of the property and thus quieter than the Victoria room which can be exposed to train noise. Having said that the trains I heard were very quiet and wouldn't have disturbed my sleep.

The history of this place is amazing. Well worth taking time to really explore this amazing building. Be aware there is no air conditioning and bathrooms are shared and common room has a very basic breakfast. You cant complain about the price - but having just spent one of the hottest nights of the year in one of the rooms I would not be choosing to do it again during the hot summer period. I look forward going back in autumn and winter.

    Lovely comfortable old hotel

The hotel was very old world, and the whole area has a great history. The room was comfortable and spacious, the lounge was inviting, and the continental breakfast was quite nice. The only real issue is the freight train that comes by quite often, and depending on where you are at the time, it can be loud.
