Good place.... but no eggs!!!
Room large, good bed, decent shower. Staff friendly and pub nice. Blind in the room didn’t keep out the street lights very well, breakfast choice was limited.

The Dolphin - Day at the races
We normally stay in a hotel just outside of Newbury when we come for the races but wanted to try something different. The Dolphin was lovely and when we checked in we were shown to our room - Great Service! We had a room facing out on the road which didn’t really bother us however can hear some of the locals in the early hours of the morning. We ate in the restaurant, food was lovely however dessert took over half an hour to come which kinda spoilt our experience. Pub was great - good selection of drinks! Overall we would stay again!

Spacious rooms
The room was clean and comfortable. Much bigger and better than most pubs in the area. The only downside was the breakfast. It was self service continental which is fine but every day there was some basics missing, like no coffee on Monday to no butter on Friday. The same loaf of bread was left over everyday and yogurt which was mentioned in their breakfast items was never there. For the price paid, some fresh produce isn’t difficult to provide. Shame about the breakfast cause it’s a great place otherwise.

Great Place to Stay
We stayed at the Dolphin whilst visiting our Daughter, The Staff where very friendly and when we did have a query about lack of something at breakfast on our second morning it was rectified very quickly and all was explained. the Room was very clean and had everything you need for a comfortable stay. Although the room did slope this did not affect our stay in any way, and we where pleasantly surprised that we couldn't hear anything once in the room considering the pub was very busy. We will certainly stay again when visiting the area.

Good hotel but the continental breakfast a tad disappointing (for a £95 stay)

Staff were friendly and helpful but Friday and Saturday night were extremely noisy. Noise/music from bar downstairs didn't end until 12, then customers outside waiting(loudly) for taxis carried on for another half an hour at least. Free coffee nice though and hotel was very close to all amenities.

Weekend break at tThe Dolphin
Met on arrival with a pot of tea which was very nice. Our room was comfortable, the bathroom clean yet a little on the small side. We had supper one evening and a Sunday roast, both meals were delicious. We did feel however that the breakfast let the friendly pub down. When I booked the room I booked a 'good breakfast' for both mornings. I expected a cooked breakfast but instead a continental one was laid out, this wasn't obvious when booking. That is my only gripe. We would stay there again

Live staying here when I am visiting Newbury. Comfy bed and well appointed rooms above a great gastro pub.

Fair 4.0
lovely pub , hotel, rooms very nice, but with no hot drink facility in room and breakfast is awful. Self service with very little options. No coffee and certainly coffee machine hard to use. not a breakfast at all eventhough advertised that there was included. Shame rooms nice but missing a trick here.

Good 6.0
Loud pub but nice, overpriced & awful breakfast.
I stayed here for 1 night as I was away for work. The pub itself is really nice. Good selection of food and drink. The food was average at best. £6 for slightly warm small bowl of soup pretty much sums it up. Overpriced for what it is. Food service was poor and it was clear my burger had been sat ready under the heated light in the kitchen for a while before it came to me. The rooms are close to the pub toilets which are obviously used by everyone in the pub. You can hear every footstep and closing of door and if you stay on a Tuesday like me you'll hear the microphone from the person doing the quiz all night. The room was ok. I was meant to have a king bed but I had two singles pushed together so there was a gap in the bed. There is no iron in the room. No kettle. If you want boiling water you need to walk back downstairs to the pub area. Shower and bath are nice and the products you get are nice too. The breakfast is literally a joke. It's self service. You get a selection of small packets of cereal and some pastries. Bread in a bread bin and some toast. No sign of butter. You get a coffee machine and kettle. Why they don't do cooked breakfast is beyond me. This could be a decent place to stay but too many little things they really make it overpriced for what it is. I won't be staying here again.
